How Much to Pay for MyName.com Domain?
I've been thinking about buying a myname.com domain (like johnsmith.com).
My first name is a fairly common name and is short (along the lines of Alex, Jake, Kevin, etc). My last name is a fairly short and common Asian last name (along the lines of Chen, Chu, Zhu etc). So the keyword is 8 letters total.
My site would be for personal/professional use - I would have some links to my resume and Facebook, a portfolio of projects I've done (I'm an engineering student), and maybe a blog. I would probably keep the domain for a very long time.
I talked to the owner, and we settled on a price of $300 - take it or leave it. I could afford this price with little difficulty.
Do you think the name is worth it for "branding purposes"?
Or should I just get a first+middleInitial+last.com (unregistered)?

I would go for the first+middle initial+last.com that's available...
Then again, I'm really cheap and can't really afford a $300 domain at the moment, so...

If the domain name have registered, evaluate this is so difficult.
"Whois.sc" always sell domain name, maybe you can know the price.

If you must really have the domain you can shell out the money. Also keep in mind that $300 can also get you well over 20 domains.

Pay what you are willing to pay.
Domains are only worth as much as the person selling it for thinks they can get.
If its a silly amount then back off. Go and register a different TLD!
What about trying your initial + lastname, or First Name + second name initial in various TLDs.
There are ways around it and these sort of domains often represent extremely poor value for money.
Just my 2c!

Go with the FirstLast.com for $300. That is a reasonable price for a name.com that you want. Nobody uses FirstMiddleLast.com really. Some people might, but it's just one more word to remember that no one uses when addressing you anyway.

is it possible to get your last name.com?
that way you can use the same domain for your kids too.
I'd say take it. You'll make the money.
Domains will become more and more valuable with years.
It's better you send some friends to your domain and have them look at some photos.

It may not be so smart to give your first and last name out that easily. Keep in mind that everyone can find you in matter of seconds, just by searching for your name. If I was you, I would have registered for a company with that $300 and I would have bought a domain for $10 under the company name. Then, I would have promote the company name, not my name.

Hi,
Yeah if you are going to get your name for a portfolio of your work or resume then you don't REALLLYY need the .com BUT it's nice to have the .COM. However, you have other options like .me or .io or .ws
For example a lot of big names have already been snatched up so now what some startups are doing is buying .io or .ly or .st domain names and integrating it into their company names and/or brands.
for example, www.fusion.io or www.po.st are all startups with investor funding.

It seems you really want to have your first name last name .com. If you don't buy it now, you may regret it for a long time. Even if you changed your mind and you didn't want to use it, you still have it and you know it's all yours. $300 is not much these days.

Agreed, .com are only going to go up and value, who knows, maybe the next bill gates will share your name and want that domain for $30,000.
