Backordering domains
What is the best way to acquire a domain that is getting ready to expire? Is it best to use the GoDaddy backorder method, or to register it with snapnames and try to buy it through them?

Yeah Snapnames and Pool are the best places to backorder domains, although they are quite expensive your chances of getting the domain are more when you backorder with them.
