Yes key word in domain helps big time. You have competitive edge right from the start with using it if it covers enough search for a profitable niche

Is that a vote for good or bad? Please back your response up with an authoritative source or at least some "real" experience.

google looks at the domain name, the url, the page title, the content... what gives the website its topic or field? the domain name first, then you narrow it down with the rest of the url and page title and finally, the content of the page.

No I don't think so. I have two domains. One keyword rich and the other not that great. But surprisingly the one without keyword rich domain is working well for me. I don't think it has much impact. Its how much you work on your domain that helps and not keyword rich domain.

keywords affect but using google trends to find better keywords is a good way to find out if it is relevant (up to date)

Using the industry or term is always suggested, but also creating a custom name that can be adopted to the industry is usually the biggest asset.

Example... Cloud Webhosting.

Moment the "cloud" was brought to the openmarket place everyone and anyone started piggy-backing the the term into there business plans, services and domains. Mix, Match and mingle words/terms ect around your industry. Making something new could be the next big thing ;p
