How much weight do old domain names carry?

Let's say, just for discussion sake, your competitor website is equal to you in all respects of online SEO, marketing, product offering, etc.....but they have a domain name that is 5-10 years older. How much more weight is given to them in search engine results?

Anywhere from 25 to 50 pounds....

Seriously, age makes a difference. If you want to beat a domain that's older in the SERPS, you have to do better, not do the same.

Also, copying the SEO that an older domain does could lead to trouble. Older domains can often get away with pretty much anything and if you try the same things with a newer domain, you'll run into problems.

I think that old domain are important because of their name (most single and two words dot com are not available) and for indexed problem in the search enigne.
- I have a new pages that rank well for a competitive keywords than old website- if your onpage and off page optimization for such pages is well you can rank well.

sellingonline is liked by many
Send a message via ICQ to sellingonline
maybe they do, but maybe not - my opinion is not only regarding the SEO results, but on an old domain you have the selling argument "online since ...", which gives an automatic trust boost in the eyes of visitors, believe me or not, I know it (tested it with and without this kind of marketing headline and with an age headline selling is just easier)
