Dot com is best, IMO. I own a bunch of .net domains and I sometimes type in .com trying to access my own sites.

those new domain names have their ups and downs. if you snag some domain like say www.whitehouse.org and use it as effectively as they have, then i think it is a big plus. however if you are using it just as a real operational website then it has some real negative effects.
with odd domains like .info you have to work extra hard at SEO, because most people will type it in wrong, so you have to rely on the click traffic rather than the direct access.

Depends on the domain. We picked up the .info version of our town name because we thought it worked nicely, but I wouldn't bother with the .info version of our business name.

yeah... I had mentioned this before (but I'll say it again)
versign sold me "my.info" back when info first came out... but they never let me do anything with it... eventually I had to demand my money back... should have sued them to force them to let me use it, but that thought only came as an after thought.
Since then I haven't even thought about that type of domain.
I was just wondering because so many 3 letter domains are taken and there are some .info's that would work... but I never (ever) have used a .info as a visitor... click through or otherwise...
I guess I really wondered if anyone had success marketing one and/or if anyone takes a site on one serious...
really just opening the floor for any thoughts about the domain ext.

the only problem with that is most domain name servers will charge extra for 2 and 3 letter domains. i was looking to buy a couple of different ones from .us, .cc, and .ws before but it was going to cost me well over 200 for just a 3 letter, the 2 letters were over 1 grand

ws, cc are scam because they are misadvertised and overpriced.
Best of best ws/cc would be priced $*** in domain market and still unlikely to sell.
Info/biz should't be confused with these. They are cheap (as low as $5 at some places). No 1 or 2 letter info/biz can be registered. If a two letter .org domain drops , it is not released; instead registry (pir.org) reserves it. ar.org will drop soon. noone can get it. its owner might be dead..

If you buy it from someone yes it can be expensive. newyork.info
was sold for $28.000, highest price paid for an .info i am aware of. If you are an enom etp, it costs $7/year. galcomm sells some domains for less than $5/year nowadays.

id stay away if you can. we have a .info for our business and not only does it get no click throughs (direct requests) it is sometimes considered an 'unauthorized website address' with some scripts. eg. if youre signing up for any particular kind of web servicer and need to enter your url, sometimes .info is flagged as a dodgy address.

it is sometimes considered an 'unauthorized website address'
who is considering it unauthorized?

if youre signing up for any particular kind of web servicer and need to enter your url, sometimes .info is flagged as a dodgy address.
Then don't sign up with that service. This only measures their quality & credibility.

Outside of something obvious like .org, .gov, or .edu, always use .com. As someone said, even when u own a .net u may often type in .com by mistake. :-)
.com is king.

The .info name works well if you have an instructional or informational type of a site. Google and many other search engines might even rank it ahead of its .com counterpart.
For example, if a site competes on "Basketball Information", then perhaps a basketball.info would rank higher than a basketball.com in some search engines.

Google puts some weight into extension. Yahoo seems to ignore it.

EJRS.COM
I decided to buy all the variations to EJRS
So I have
EJRS.COM | EJRS.NET | EJRS.ORG | EJRS.INFO | EJRS.BIZ | EJRS.US
This way I get all the clicks I want
