What's the truth behind 3 Char. Domains?

Hello,

I am looking to invest in some 3 char. domains. I know the LLL.com's are worth thousands, but right now people can buy LLN or NNL or LNL.coms for a fraction of the cost. Like around $150 or so.

My question is, are these a wise investment?

Will they be worth the thousands as the LLL are going for?

What are your predictions?

For reference. The L stands for Letter and the N for number for those who do not know.

If you look at the trend and history of 3 character domains you will generally see a steady increase in pricing for them. Whether it's LLL.com or LNN.com. Percentage wise...3 character (N's and Ls') have significantly increased in value from 2 years ago when they were only $15-$25 each. Now are minimum $100-$150 as you pointed out. LLL.com's imho have outpriced most buyers making them harder to dispose of. LLL.net's are doing VERY well lately too. This year 3 character .net's were sold out and can still be obtained for $7-$15 in bulk buys. IMHO...that's a cheap enough price to grab 20-50 and see what happens.

You can watch 3character.com's price guide change monthly. Also use archive.org to check prices from the past. It's interesting to even read his speculative articles from 2 years ago.

One interesting prediction is the increase of pricing for LLL.us and LLL.biz. Both still obtainable for under $200 per name. These may be worth $500 within 2 years.

3 character .coms are considered as fixed deposits.

They will atleast get what had been put into it. And with the price rise it can also give 100% to 200% of growth.

I think the take off time for 3 character domain name might be longer, atleast hard to predict. I would be more interested to go on for small generic domain name such as vodka.com which has been sold out for $3million recently.

The prices of 3 character domains are purely speculative and not really based on anything fundamental because most of them can't really be used for a website.

That being said, as long as the internet grows, the prices of 3 character domains will probably go up faster than most investments.

As well 3 character domains are somewhat of a commodity, which makes them easier to trade than most domain names.

I would be too, but when I counted up all my pennies, they didn't total $3 million!

i am in complete agreement with Aviva, 3 letter domains are mere for speculative purpose and has nothing to do with fundamentals.

I am more interested in pure one or two word generic domain names that have lot of potential.

Anyway for someone it is passion to get such 3 letter domain name, I recently purchased a 3 letter .name domain name though it was not that much difficult to get it and so one can find some of 3 letter domain still available for some of the tld, I guess.

The domains will be worth a lot more if they form the abreviation of a companies name. For example law firms often go by their abreviations, I used to do work for a company, now defunct by merger, who were called Vizards Staple Banisters (VSB). To them VSB.com or VSB.co.uk would be worth a great deal.
