Godaddy's domain business is good. I'm using them. Godaddy has a bad rap for their *web hosting* services.

I prefer Netfirms. They're damn cheap. You can get .com domain for $5. Hope this will be useful for you...

I use active-domain.com the most. I started with them as I wanted a domain registration company that accepted PayPal and once I started using them I stayed with them. Having said that I have started buying a few sites from people and they all seem to be using GoDaddy and so now I have some domains at GoDaddy. So far no problems with them.

I use Godaddy also. I've used Ipower and have not been very happy. If you're thinking about price, then I believe that Yahoo has the $1.99 special for new customers going on. Last I looked, it was still being offered.

I've used 1&1 for over 2 years now and only really had a few problems in the last few months. They are cheap enough and include free private registration if you need it. They can take a while to register new domains though and this is the only problem I've had with them.
I also use Moniker mainly because they allow a grace period for you to evaluate domains which I know not everyone approves of. They are the fastest to register new domains that I've seen. Most domains I've registered have gone through in minutes.
The longest 1&1 have taken to register a domain for me is 2 days!!! In fact I actually lost a domain recently that I requested through 1&1 because it took them so long.

Most of my domains registered at GOdaddy. Godaddy has good customer service and I like it.
I have another registrar. Moniker. Many people who has business on domain trading knows moniker. It's a good registrar. The customer service is good. You can join their domain auction.
Both (godaddy and moniker) are good registrar. There are also many good registrars out there.

I don't think Godaddy sucks, thats a bit harsh.... From a previous post:

ScorpionAgency: I guess each person has a different experience. I have been with over 11 different Hosting companies giving each on at least a 4-6 month trial run to see if they meet or exceed my main requirements. #1 being 24/7 customer Support & #2 Providing Reliable service, the rest is minimal compared to those main 2.
I ended up with Godaddy & have been with them about a year now. They are the only ones that have provided Great service along with Clear English speaking tech support that can be reached LIVE 24/7 within 3-5 minutes of my originating call.
Granted, they don't have a toll free #, but its free on my cell phone when I call so that doesn't bother me. & the times I did have minor problems proved to be my own misunderstanding or doing.
Just remember, the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.

Besides that, as far as domain Registration goes, Godaddy leads the industry with its Ongoing $1.99 Domain registration (With NO quantity limits) Campaign. sure you may have toi spend $4.00 for the smallest hosting package in order to buy a Bulk lot of 100 Domain names at Only $1.99 each. I think that $4.00 is rather a good investment with all things considered, don't you? I mean, especially if all your looking for is Domain Registration purchases.
I wish you the best of luck!

Personally I use NameALerts.com (even though they're slightly pricey).
Basically cause I've heard bad reviews about other stealing domains, registering them before you (eg. do a search for a domain and the next day it is gone) etc...

I am godaddy customer but I know that it sucks a lot and would like to have some professional alternatives.

I can't believe you feel that way! I have used so many hosting services and as a designer and coder I've had the LEAST problem with GoDaddy. I host all my sites there and recommend them to everyone. Trust me, if they were no good I would stop recommending them. Honestly, I prefer their setup more than cPanel. It may take some getting used to.. but it's worth it. I feel I have more than enough control to do anything I need... plus.. their linux PHP hosting is setup PERFECT. I never have an issue.. I'm a support moderator on a project at another forum for a CMS and I see people coming to the site asking questions about problems all the time.. Problems I've never even seen or heard of. Many times it's because their hosting isn't setup properly.. Something I've never had to worry about with GoDaddy! I love the fact that you can use PHP4 or PHP5, both will function.
