What do backorders actually do? How do they work?

I have a $19 backorder credit at GoDaddy for itwebsolutions.com and cannot reapply it to another domain.
How does this backorder process work? What if someone uses SnapCheck? Does one service take priority over another? They all claim that they get first dibs on expired names, but how do you really know?

Backorders are rarely reliable unless no one else wants the name during
the drop. Reason is that some companies have really good snaping engines through
dozens of high speed lines and servers, and they pound the registry
during the drop period like a gazillion times. The winner between the
winner and the loser of the snap can be about 1/100th of a second.
So against the hard core snappers, most registrars
that offer backorders don't really have a chance unless
that domain is not on snap by those people who have the technology.

If you want a better backorder system try:
http://snapnames.com
They have dozens of registrar partners working with them.

It all depends. If you think someone else is also trying to snap a name,
and the name is really important, and you think its worth more to you
than $60, then http://snapnames.com is the way to go.
Your chances are much higher with snapnames than anything else.

I am addicted to domain names... I have over 28! Most are for ideas that I never follow-up on. Where do I go to seek help?
