I hope so too. That is the main reason I posted this.
iKwak: How long have to had them? It took about 1 month for me to start receiving all these small business deals and stuff.

Hello everyone!
Unfortunately that's what will frequently happen when you get a
domain name with a hosting company.
FYI, ev1servers.net isn't really a domain registration company,
otherwise known as domain registrars. ev1 is probably a reseller
for one.
Simply put, they outsource their domain registration & management
needs to a real domain registrar, although they're allowed to
manage them using their interface.
When you get a domain name thru a hosting company, you're
subject to their terms. Best you read their service agreement or
its equivalent.
Like what most people input here, you definitely can't input fake
information in your domain's WHOIS. Doing so could actually
get your domain name deleted.
What happened doesn't apply to just Ev1. It applies to other
hosting companies offering domain names at cheaper prices as
well, although I don't know how many of them would go to
such lengths as you described.

I think that applies to most websites that offer domain name services, not just the ones that are hosting companies.

Agreed. Anyway, here are 2 links to determine who are the REAL
domain registrars:
http://www.icann.org/registrars/accredited-list.html
http://www.internic.net/alpha.html
Any company name outside those lists are definitely resellers
unless those sites are updated with the new info.

yes, and it's not very smart either.
I use a dedicated email address for all of my domains, put the registrar on the white list, and crank up the spam filter.
The only real spam I get is from Domain Registry of America (snail mail)
I am a reseller for Wild West Domains (a godaddy sister company) so I get my names through my own store (name-builder.biz)

I have about 60 domains registered @ ev1 and have not had the solicitation issues that are discussed above. Maybe I do get a lot of calls from MCI.. I don't know. I get a lot of spam calls from a lot of companies. I must be on the hot list or whatever.
I have also had pretty good service from ev1. I use the support chat a lot, the TT's are answered quickly enough for me, and my server has been solid for a couple years now. There are other places that tempt me... even now, but I am still with ev1servers and with the new services that they have just rolled out, it looks like I'll stay.

ok, ev1 uses opensrs, zand opensrs's policy is too provide all domaisn that are registered to certain people/companies. Now these people and companies have programs that whois all domains registered and gather the info. Its really not ev1 or opensrs's fualt. Its the spammers that found ways to gather real info. Ev1 does have an option in there control panel(opensrs control panel actually) to hide your info, or change it. Enom does the same exact thing. These are 2 of the biggest domain registars that offer reseller accounts.
I've actually got contacted a few months ago right after I registered a domain through myself, (I am a enom reseller). I got contacted by Aplus.net. I kind of wanted to know why aplus would contact me even though the info on the domain was my business name with of course was the same business as aplus. So I called them and they explained they get notified from enom and other registars wen ever someone registers a new domain. So they call up aand solicite.
I hope this help. Ev1 servers are not for everyone, and I know why people hate them, but there domains are cheap and worth getting. Spam happens, spammers go after anyone, anytime, anyhow they can.

Yep, ev1 always uses price trick to mislead people, to seduce people to them. Usually getting spams from them, totally sucks. Now I would like to move my domains in ev1 to other registrars, but it's not that easy.
