Which domain to register?
I'm looking at starting a forum and can't decide on the domain. I've narrowed it down to two generic ones.
topic-forums.com
topicforums.org
I replaced the actual topic with the word "topic". Which domain would you recommend, and why?
Thanks for you help.

I would register both domains and decide later which one to use...
Me, I like the first domain, cause it´s dotcom, but everything depends on the nature of "topic" people will talk about on your forum...

Either have the drawback that people might end up at topicforums.com, if they try to remember the adress after visiting once.
I think that I would go with the first one as well, just for the .com.

Depends on your branding strategy, I think .org is OK for a forum, in this case I would go for .com

Yup I agree with John as well. I would take both.
Both domains have their drawbacks as FHM said. One is a .org and the other has a hyphen.
I would use the .com. Continue to search if maybe you can't find a better .com for it.
You can try other words instead of "forums" or "forum". Here are a few to get you started.
board
boards
discuss
talk
chat
chatter
gab
...etc.

Hello webfinity, buy them both then buy a dozen more so you can own these hot properties like we do. It is and I warn you my friend, a bad habit to get buying these. We actually build out a few dozen of them so dar but I think we are at about 4000 today.
No just buy them both you will be happier I hope.
P.S. One closing note I would not buy plural personally because then it comes accross to us as a directory for forums. This is just our thoughts. In most cases however we buy singular and plural for and example of our ways beachtowel and beachtowels and redirect the other.
Logic...

I would reccomend you concentrate on .com domain name. And never show domain names you would like to register on public

I recommend definitely using a .com, but I wouldn't settle
for a .com with a hyphen in it. If someone types in your
URL and forgets the hyphen they will end up on another
site.
I would keep searching for a .com.... maybe add another
short word before or after "topic" as long as it fits and
is easy to spell and remember.
Best of success with your search and your new forum!

Try approaching the person who owns the topicforums.com and see if they're not using the domain & is willing to sell it to you for an affordable price.
Why? Because either way, you'll be sending traffic to topicforums.com and if it's a parking page then the owner of that domain will be benefiting from your hard work.
Although, if topicforums.com is a very popular site then owning the .org might prove to be useful.
