Most of the good .com's were registered before 1998.
If finding a good domain name is vital for your company,
the easiest way to get a good .com name that fits your business
is just to buy the brand from someone else who owns it.
For a thousand or two, they might sell. It's much easier that way,
assuming your budget isn't tight. Basically, a good easy to remember
brand name that keeps bringing customers back might pay for itself
over the long run.
With regard to that concept, I bought 3 top notch domain names from
three different people for: $2250, 2550, and $2700 respectively last year.
All of those were initially registered in 1996. Pretty good considering that
I didn't have to build a time machine and go back for them...
