WP database migration to new server

Hello,

I am trying to move a site from my friends server onto mine. I have a new site for him that I am going to put up, but want to get the old site on an extra URL that I have just in case we need to get some info from it.

I dumped the DB from the old server. Found + replaced the old URL in the SQL document and replaced with the new URL. I installed all of the files from old domain onto the new one. Went into phpmyadmin on my new domain and imported the database. When I go to the site it doesn't load anything, but instead it downloads a file to my computer...this is what it reads:

Any idea why this is happening? I'm sure I missed a step or something. Thank you in advance for your help.

Drupal to Wordpress Conversion

At work I have been assigned to convert our current website which is using the CMS Drupal and convert it to Wordpress.

We are a landscaping company with fairly little content on the website. Nothing that can't really be copy pasted from scratch onto a wordpress blank slate.

Two main issues.

1) How can I build the new site without disabling/ affecting the old site on Drupal. It will take at least a week to set up the new site which is too long to have the original website down/ in edit.

2) In terms of SEO or any other unforeseen issues when converting the site to a new CMS...what should I look out for? The same url's will be used for all individual pages.

Question about Blogging

Hey all,
I am getting into blogging as being my business. So far I know that:
-Creating backlinks helps by commenting on other blogs in the same topic, and helping out in forums in the same category while creating a signature with a link to my website.
-Doing guest posts while linking back to my website.
-Creating lots of quality content.

Is there anything else that anyone else suggests I should try?.

Which mode of reference you prefer for your blog?

I prefer to use a Youtube video clip as a point of reference over a link of content.

The reason is simple in link my reader has to take pain in clicking and going through the content whereas youtube can be viewed at my same page without taking eyes off my website. Plus the visual medium is a better and faster way to establish your point and a reliable source of reference.

hi - here's the scenario

is there any software, widget, plugin or any other way to have a pop up display only to a specific region or country. so for example if someone from canada visits the site nothing happens different but if i have it set to scottish ip or residents then a banner or popup can appear?

I am wanting to create an open-style blog that allows anyone to post as an author

My thinking here is the best way to do this is with a facebook or twitter [authorise the site to use this] type plugin.

Does anyone know a good plugin that will allow this. Essentially the only real information I want the blog to pull from FB/Twittter is the profile pic and the users name, then they can post...

I've seen Social Auth, and it seems to provide dozens of multiple llogin with... type options. I really only want to do it with facebook/twitter and wondering if anyone has attempted this before.
