V7N Enables Embedded You Tube Videos

We are introducing the ability to include embedded You Tube Videos within your post on a trial...

We are introducing the ability to include embedded You Tube Videos within your post on a trial basis.

- This option is enable for You Tube Videos only.
- Do not add videos which have embedding disabled.

Adding Embedded You Tube Video To Your Post

From the advanced editor (not quick reply) you will see a You Tube icon that you can click on.

Attachment 10873
click thumbnail to view

Once you click on the icon you will see opening and closing youtube bb code. In between the opening and closing bb code, add the id for the video.

Attachment 10875
click thumbnail to view

As an example, if the URL looks like the one below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oztkl0GKTng

You only add the text after the v=

Oztkl0GKTng

When you find a video through the related videos areas though, it adds more information to the URL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3dGHj5Zzss&feature=related

You would NOT add the information including the & sign

So in this example, the following would be incorrect:
F3dGHj5Zzss&feature=related

The following is correct:
F3dGHj5Zzss

Again, this is only being offered on a trial basis. If we find that offering this option leads to issues, such as member abuse or substantial slowing of the forum, it will be removed.

Special Note: The rules involving this option will be the same as those concerning adding links to your posts. Starting a thread to promote your own videos will not be allowed. However, we will allow our members to link to their own videos when it is relevant as part of their response to a thread.

Suggestion for Contextual Links @ V7N

Hello everybody,

Hello everybody,
I just checked the FAQ section and learnt that the Contextual Links offered by V7N say that the placement is "PERMANENT". This rings a bell.
What do you mean when you promise that the Listing will be Permanent? For how many years is this Permanent word valid?

I have a different opinion towards the way things work on the internet. I have been into media sales since a long time now and have many times come across the problem when my client asks for a permanent ad space. So here's what I say all the time - We Lease the Domain from the company, we do not own the domain permanently till the time we are alive or even after that. Once we stop paying for the domain, it is up for sale for someone else , so how do I promise you a permanent Listing.

Leave aside everything, and say I plan to sell my site immediately after a month you bought a permanent ad space from me - Who has a control over this?

I assume that the V7N Contextual Ads want to be Different from other Text brokers but definitely there are other intelligent ways to be different and all you guys are smart enough to device that method.

If I am wrong here, or my facts are not right, feel free to correct me. :)

As it currently stands, you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to start the search after you've selected your username at the top of the page.

Just A Suggestion #2 :)

This is my second suggestion for V7N ;)

I was wondering what everyone would think about adding a gaming forum. Now, before everyone starts saying "no way" I do think it should be considered.

I do fully understand that the goal of V7N is to house quality content - whereas a game forum would not have that. However, think about: Everyone needs a break during posting serious content to just have a bit of fun. And everyone WILL make sure that they get that break. Would you prefer for people to go to another website to have fun playing a game or would you rather them stay here at V7N? Personally, I want all the members to stay here!

The type of games I am talking about are Forum Games such as word association, number games, guys vs gals (yes Cricket, the guys will win but don't let this effect your decision :) ).

I don't think that there is any debate about whether or not the addition of such a forum will be successful or not. I am sure that if a Games subforum was added to the Forum Lobby that it would easily have over 1,000 posts in it within the first few days. But, my only concern would be if V7N is ready to handle that number of posts per day and the amount of traffic that would come to the forum

Just thought I'd mention this because it's happened to me a few times over the past couple of weeks here when submitting a message, message length does not seem to be a factor as near as I can tell.

Upon submit, the site will sometimes hang and will appear to freeze up entirely so much so that I have to hit the back button and then refresh just to ensure I don't accidentally double post. I notice that whenever this happens however, the post is written to the database as I've yet to lose one single post when this happens.

This has happened to me both at home and at work.

Home Specs: Windows XP Home, Google Chrome, DSL Connection

Work Specs: Windows NT, Firefox 2.0 (ya I know, wtf?), haven't a clue but I know it isn't dial up
