Businesses will frantically look around for new consumer behavior trends. Will the mobile be the future of the web? How will mobile consumption patterns evolve? What products and services are making it to the top of the consumer mind share? How do you explain eco-trends, more-ism, emerging markets, and new technologies? Or as Trend Watching nudges us to think: what's the full-frontal mega-trend of transparency? What are App-scriptions?

Trends are a sure way to latch your content development work on. This kind of content is sure to grab attention, cover new stories, give an interesting twist to your content marketing strategy, and help provide a platform for your customers to base their thinking on. Developing content based on trends also makes you a thought leader and a trend watcher — a sure sign of "moving with the times".

So, how do you develop content on such trending topics without coming across as irrelevant? How do you create relevant, engaging content that doesn't add more to the mucky spam flooding the Internet?

Here are a few ideas:

What do Tiger Woods, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, and Serena Williams have in common? The answer lies in how they learn.

Teach them to act or play their respective sports by showing them how to do it and they would quickly become more lost than an agoraphobic at a protest march.

The only real way certain people improve is by doing. Give Carrey an audio script and you'll have more luck getting the European jobless rates down than him to learn his lines.

The key to understanding why this is the case is to dive into the world of learning styles and a key aspect of any content strategy for businesses that rely on playing a part in any creative or learning process in people's lives.

That covers a vast array of different types of business; from HR and insurance through to equipment retailers and back again; everybody can add value and help their customer improve their knowledge about what they do.

Hi, there has been a large emphasis on creating very rich content in recent weeks.

A lot of SEO's are preaching and maximising their content resources for promoting websites.

I recently attended some events at thebigdata week.
I saw that many people were aggregating their data in pretty much a manual way. They were digging deep into .pdfs provided by Government sites, extracting the information manually (as .gov sites don't often have API access or any standardisations), rejigging the data into a workable format and correlating this data with other statistics (that had to be mined too).
They were researching statistics, using excel to spot patterns and hidden stories in order to write pieces related to their niche.

Imagine your company needs to write 50 pieces a week. The approach above seems impractical nee impossible using the research techniques mentioned.

The simplest of correlations at the bigdataweek seminar I attended seemed to take at least:
- 3 hours (digging/researching statistical data)
- 2 hours ( compiling data)
- 2 hours (researching data to find a story)
- 2 hours ( producing visuals and content surrounding the findings )

So all in all the manual approach took around 9 hours (flat out) in it's simplest form to produce something worth publishing. I imagine that more complex data could take days / weeks to compile.

It made me think - surely there's a way to create well researched decent content in a better more scalable way?

My questions to you are:

How could you suggest that this process be more efficient in and streamlined within a team?

Are there online places that aggregate statistics and data in easy & retrievable formats?

I'd like this post to become a curation of data sources provided by the V7N community that others can use for inspiration.

If you feel able to contribute please mention any urls or ways to access data (via API perhaps?) below:
(We could then categorise these further and eventually produce an amazing resource for content writers and researchers.)

What do you think?

As the pace of content creation increases, our attention spans seem to be decreasing. This is requiring creators to adapt and consider ways in which people can consume content in a timely manner. The result is a movement towards highly visual content. While you may not have the resources to hire a designer or visual artist for your content, there are several things you can do to create high touch visuals with your existing content.

The internet can be broken down into two separate groups – those who create content and those who consume it. Those who create it have more social shares, influence, revenue, Google love, etc. We get it. Content is king and limes are green.

There’s obviously a need to crank out content on a large scale, which has led to the use of automatic content generation for mass distribution. I’m aware of instant article software that is capable of producing hundreds, even thousands, of unique, content-rich web pages in a matter of minutes. But like Shania used to say, “that don’t impress me much.”

Yeah it saves time, but a marketing strategy built solely upon automatic content generation will not be sustainable. Maybe a decade ago, but not today. We’re witnessing more and more the value Google is placing on content readability, social shares, and authorship; all things you must earn as a content creator.

So what do you...
