Do you keep a diary?
If not, you better get started because it apparently makes you happier. Or at least it helps you get a grip on emotionally distressing events?
If you do, do you think it makes you happier?

Brain scans on volunteers showed that putting feelings down on paper reduces activity in a part of the brain called the amygdala, which is responsible for controlling the intensity of our emotions.
Psychologists who discovered the "Bridget Jones effect" said it worked whether people elaborated on their feelings in a diary, penned lines of poetry, or even jotted down song lyrics to express their negative emotions.

I wonder if blogs work as well?

I don't really keep a day-to-day diary. But every once in a while I write stuff down in a log. What I write I guess you could call them Spiritual things that I learn from time to time to remember.
I guess you could call it a diary, but I see them as Captain's logs..

I have all the journal logos in my mind. The best book or hard-drive for me.
And to answer a little bit to that article in the guardian, it's ok to keep a diary if you have to many tought get into your mind and you can't organize them anymore. Then I think it's usefull.

I know it sounds sad, but Twitter is my diary. I'm the screen teen generation, I often find myself with a short attention span, and Twitter offers a way to blurt out my inappropriate thoughts and share them with THE WORLD. MUAH HA HA HA...

I was thinking there would be a generational thing going on, with those who are older having diaries and the younger, tech savvy opting for blogs and like you, Twitter.
It is interesting in that diaries generally were kept as a private record for the most part and perhaps published in later life or even after death. Yet some like yourself are happy to share those personal details with friends, and not at all put off by, say, your mother finding out. (I guess there are things you would not put on Twitter that you would put in a private diary?)

I kept a diary from age 11 until 13. I still have it - and it cracks me up, as all I did was rant incessantly about my sister and my parents. It amazes me that we're all so close now.
I've promised myself, in the near future, I'm going to begin a diary. Well, I want it to be a combination of a diary and photo journal. It won't be online, however.

I also keep a diary. I am fond of writing before way back in high school and even in college. I make sure that I keep on updating my diary everyday. but when I got a job, that's the time that stop writing. Years later when I read old entries I find it so amazing to see how I have grown and to see if things have worked out the way I wanted.
As of now, I still find time to write when something important happens in my life. In my livejournal account.

I think that is understandable, at that age the dominant people in your life are those that you share it with. After all they are the ones that have the greatest impact upon your happiness.
I find v7n has turned into my diary, my posts document the major events/thoughts in my life over the last couple of years. The threads I have started document my thoughts and concerns. I do censor myself though, not everything gets broadcast to the world.

I also keep one diary before. But right now, I am keeping a Starbucks organizer that I got last December. I don't write on it often, sometimes, I forgot to do so.
Yes. Blogs are very acceptable. Consider it as the digital copy of your diary.
Twitter is pretty addictive!

I used to have a diary. I write everyday and I recall filling out two thick books!
I just stopped when I found out my mom read it. It was so embarrassing!

we were required to have diaries when we were in high school for this subject VALUES, well, you can choose to let them make you read it in front of the class if they think that it is worth sharing or just keep it between you and your teacher, of course I didn't write anything that was happening with me but only crap things, even if he was my teacher, I still want my privacy, though, I did write a lot way back, not in form of diary though but in essays and stories and poems I write in candy wrappers or scratch papers, I got them all locked somewhere in my folks house, don't really want to read them cause they would probably bring back some feelings, or, make me want to feel them again.. I don't know why at some point of my life, I stopped writing, something I did enjoy... well, lately I have been writing lots of stuffs here in V7N so I guess the same as SITA, this is somewhat a diary for me as well.. only, the whole world can read it.

Only if you have something very naughty to hide about. Though, diaries should contain almost what you really feel at that time, but I think you should also consider that you're actually writing it not for your eyes only, at least for the moment.

Well i have lot of naughty and not so good for me to tell things in life, so it just like suicide to write such things in diary. And i can't do it like leaving the bad things out and keeping the good one in my diary. So i am happy to keep them in mind.....atleast staying safe is more important

Just to be cynical with my future co-worker, I think they also encourage us to do some diary so that every consultation would be an easy job for them(us I hope soon) just reading to your personal notes.
But I do take notes of my memorable experiences some time aside from blogging them. It helps me remember things not only by thoughts but through "feelings" too.
You see, I have this long term memory for some events in my life because I can re-feel what happened during that time. Most in my family can't remember some important events from the past which I still can. Like when I was 3 years old. Just some random events though.

I started one a few years ago, but stopped after a year or so. Part of the reason why I stopped was because of depression and lack of energy. But I feel that I need to start keeping the journal going again.

Well, I used to have a diary, I wrote all the stuffs. In fact, I used to write in computer in the age of floppy.
Now, I am thinking to start again, and yeah I believe, there should be something to write about things that happens around you and your life. Maybe a diary can become a movie, or a soap opera. Well.......anyways.......forget it
