Any Ideas?

http://www.gametex.com/catalog/index.php

I have been hired to work on this web site - the brief was to set up the oscommerce script and optimize the site, etc.

So someone installed the oscommerce script - only i don't see it.
Everyone i ask says they can see the script installed, i get

This page cannot be found

Does everyone here see it? If so - the problems obviously my end - any idea's? I have set all my security levels to low - accepted all cookies - tried everything

I've tried with 3 different browsers.......

2 different computers on my network....

I just don't see it?

Unplug your modem thingy, maybe?

It could be your ISP showing a cached file, though.

Whats the exact address of the page it says it can't find? I went through the site but got stuck at the login/account creation bit after adding something to the shopping cart.

Can you see any pages on the site?

I can't see any of the pages.

www.gametex.com

this should take you direct to the oscommerce shopping cart.

When i type it in i get this page cannot be found

if i type the url direct to the shopping cart (listed in first post) I get this page cannot be found. Its like my computer cannot connect to the host. I put a normal HTML file on the server and it says page cannot be found.

I have just been round to a friends house and and tried his computer - all working perfectly, everyone else i ask - can see the site.

My computer cannot?

I just tried unplugging my modem (switched computer off - unplugged it - reattached it and turned back on) but that didn't work...

Any idea's?

Worked fine for me. Went all the way through to the last page before I needed a valid credit card.

Hmm, thats odd. Oldsocks, which ISP do you connect with? Has the domain been recently registered, transfered or moved server?

I suspect it's a glitch with your ISP's DNS server (although is Sara is getting it, that does suggest a problem elsewhere). Might even be a glitch with the hosts DNS server I suppose unless any of the above questions about the domain are true.

Another option as Scott mentioned is that your ISP is forcing your connections through a proxy server and that's keeping its own cache of the page and for some reason that cache is corrupt and thus it can't put you through to the final destination.

Actually a good test would be to go to Start > Run > type in "command" then at the horrible DOS black screen put: tracert www.gametex.com and see what it comes back with. It should give you a trace of the route to the hosting machine, but if that fails it might point to something.

It should start with something like:

[code:1:6ed51d6b89]Tracing route to gametex.com [205.214.82.16]
over a maximum of 30 hops:[/code:1:6ed51d6b89]

...then count to x number and with something like:

[code:1:6ed51d6b89]12 170 ms 169 ms 169 ms swift.swiftnames.com [205.214.82.16][/code:1:6ed51d6b89]

....then say Trace complete. If that doesn't happen, then it'll point us to the problem, most likely on the first line I'd guess.

Btw, if the above helps to sort this problem out, does that mean we can have a 25% discount on that web site?

I get exactly the same as Jazzee.

I use tiscali broadband. The web site has only just been set up, but the name has been registered for a while now.

This is beyond me - how am i supposed to work on a web site i cannot see?

Make it work and i'll sort you out with a discount lol

I asked the host of the site - they said.....

have checked it and it loads for me to, showing:

“Bestsellers

01. Arcade Stick

02. P99L Laser Blaster Gun

03. Xbox Dance Mat”

I checked the load on the server as well which is very low so he should be ok to view it.

Regards,

Martin

It has to be a DNS issue. I can access the site. By going to either link. If you just registered the site It probably has not propregated to all DNS servers yet. It usually takes time.

An alternative it to try to access the site via IP address. This is you typically access a site prior to it resolving. Most ISP's give you a temporary link, url or ip address to work on the site before it resolves.

I am on Comcast Cable here from Seattle and my sister in Pennsylvania on Adelphia Cable can't get to it, either.

So I doubt our ISP has anything to do with it.

EDIT: I must be typing slow today (two posts from when I started my reply)

Thanks for the pic ... so thats what has been installed lol.

Now i come to think of it I couldn't access the ftp via normal host ftp.gametex.com

I had to use the ip address

But if I try that in the browser it doesn't work....

This has to be a isp issue... Jazzee what isp do you use?

Thanks Jazzee

So it's not an isp issue - some people see it, some people don't.

*sigh* Anyone have an answer?

How'd we get to ISP? It's a DNS issue.

There are many DNS servers that need to be updated before everyone can see it. Anytime you make a change or register a new domain name the process typically takes 1 -3 days for the whole world to see the site. Some change often and other take longer based on their Time to kill settings on the DNS servers.

Let's say you change my hosting on my site to v7. I will make my change at register.com. The site will take a few days to resolve on the new servers. Some people will see my old site on the old server and others will see the new site on the new servers. The only thing that will fix this is time. If this is actually the problem.

My guess would be that it will resolve in a few hours or sometime this weekend. I can see both your www and ftp site. I get the login prompt when I try to access it via ftp.
