Tesla coil: dangerous beauty
I bring you beauty and danger folks. Don't try this at home. This man is brave and scary at the same time.

That guy made something dangerous very artistic!
Last time I heard of Tesla Coils was back in my Star Craft days.

Star Craft? I guess you're talking about Red Alert/Yuri's Revenge.
SITA: Lightning fascinates and scares me at the same time. I can still remember the time when I was still a kid, playing under my Aunt's Christmas tree... and getting electrocuted.

I just noticed a "see how it was made" link that I didn't click, this may be where the confusion lies.
The Modern Thinker is definitely photoshopped. High voltage doesn't behave like that.

I'm afraid I'd have to see it to believe it.

Sorry Atom, my mistake, it isn't really an article as such. The link leads to a series of pictures, navigation is via the previous and next options on the right of the pictures. A few of the pictures have a one sentence description as a caption underneath the pictures.
The Telegraph is a newspaper over in the UK, so I mistakenly used the word 'article' to refer to the collection of pictures. There are twelve pictures in all to see.
The guy seems to be using a kind of time-lapse photography in combination with various contraptions link to a tesla coil to produce the images. But you are probably in a better position to judge this one. Faked? I don't know.

Well, it's just that I've never seen HV act uniformly like that before. I think you may be onto something with the photography factor. I didn't read the captions, BTW. I probably should.

Unbelievable but to see is to believe... still, this remains as a farce to me.

Nice find SITA. Looks interesting.
Check out this link guys >> http://tesladownunder.com/ModernThinker.htm
It is the link from that telegraph article.
It was an improvised man-made tesla coil using a various objects such as foils, sparklers, aluminum straps, etc. to produce that kind of effect.
I don't really think it is fake but it was an improvised lightning.
