I am a Blood Donor.
"I am a blood donor and I save lives" - This is the posted slogan at the hospital I went last Saturday.
I'm so happy donating 1 bag of blood to save my friend's mother suffering from an Ovary cancer.
This was the first time I became a blood donor. I'm so scared at first hoping to be rejected by the nurses assigned at the blood bank section. But in my mind, I need to passed to help my friend. In fact, this is all I can offer aside from being there when she was crying for the extension of her mother's life.
I remember the very first I tempted to donate a blood was when i'm at my 2nd year of college, but rejected because of having colds that time.
Honestly, I'm so nervous. I'm so scared seeing long and pointed injections. But the nurse was so good. I don't even felt the needle at my arm. Am.. if I'm not mistaken, it takes for about 5-10 minutes transferring blood.
I felt so proud of my self. From 15 persons, 2 persons only passed the screening. Thanks God I'm one of them. har har...
You? Are you a Blood donor? Can you tell your story here.

tgif and this weekend I was out getting drunk with my friends in this place that I rented as a hangout pad... we cooked and grilled pigs blood as a complement to the alcohol that we were drinking and because it was one of the favorite pulutan or finger food. a homeless dude was begging for money but we have used all our money to buy booze and smoke so we gave him some of the food that we cooked. we donated blood to a homeless and hungry guy...

I've been donating bloods to my "tiny" friends my whole life and yet they're always asking for more. Worst thing they've made me sick with dengue. But I still donate to them every now and then.

In my opinion , We should not donate our blood to the any blood bank or charity. Because when we need then they said that we have no matched blood. and they took more money. I think we should donate needed people.

But why? Aren't you happy saving lives? For me, It's not about the return they will give. I do not expect from it. All I think that time was to help the needy people, more especially a mother of a friend.

For various reasons I'm not allowed to donate, but my wife does. She feels that one day she may need a transfusion and if that time comes, she does not want to have any qualms about accepting it.
Give to receive, don't just take.

That was great perception and principle in life. We must give so that when time comes that we are the one needy, they will voluntarily offer you help without asking. Do it sounds good? I guess so.

Don't say that Tom. Every blood you donated, counts... That's why the Blood Bank slogan is "I donate blood and I save lives". You was automatically saving lives after you have donated a blood. You may not see it but the hospital and the patient are so thankful for it.

In my own opinion, donating blood for 2o times was enough for you. You are so great!

I think that a bit of the Bystander Effect might be in play here with blood giving in general, most blood types are common and heck if I don't give blood, somebody else will, so everyone will be just fine in the end regardless of my inaction.

Great deed there.
Due to my smaller hemoglobin (type-D) I am unable to give blood. Not sure who would want it anyway.
It's something of a rare condition affecting descendants of the Mediterrainian. The only people who could use my blood would be someone else with hemoglobin type-D. (with the same blood type, of course)
I'm not even sure I can receive blood because of this. Guess I'll cross that road (maybe) when the situation presents itself.

pctec: being diabetic I have to do the finger pricking frequently, in fact at times its three times a day
There is a trick! The tip/pad part of the finger is full of nerve endings so avoid that part. Instead prick the side of the finger about 6 or 7 millimetres below the nail. If you get it right, you hardly feel a thing. It is important to have a sharp pen needle, and the depth must be set correctly to only draw the minimum amount of blood.
You would think most medical practitioners would know this information but few do.
