Are you part of the problem?
Are you part of the problem? Or are you part of the solution?
Within any community you will see a wide range of personalities concerning how things should or should not be done. This is a good thing because if all of us were the same, and had all the same personalities and opinions, it would be pretty boring.
However, whenever I see someone complaining about something, about anything, I always have to suppress the urge to ask, if they are part of the problem? Or, are they actively doing something to be part of the solution?
If you aren't crazy about the quality of the threads being posted, do you sit around complaining about it? Or, do you take an active part in starting new quality threads?
If you see spam, do you sit around complaining about it? Making snide comments to the spammers? Or, do you actively do something about it by reporting the post or thread to the moderators using the report button?
Being part of an online community isn't much different than actively taking part in the community in your home town.
Are you part of the problem? Or, are you part of the solution?

Whether I'm part of the problem or part of the solution is entirely subjective and likely based off how others read/interpret what I have to say. I don't believe I complain excessively but I will drop in a comment when I see numerous posts making foggy claims to information yet backing it up with nothing concrete and/or helpful.
Like many webmasters, I joined this community to learn, participate based off my busy schedule as a webmaster, and start only specific (or my version of) well titled topics based off issues I'm having at my own site/sites. Yes I have reported posts and have even reported my own post on occasion when I felt I went a bit far in defending my position.
In other words, I don't know whether or not I'm part of the problem, part of the solution or a combination of both, only you fine folks know for sure.

I don't believe Cricket is actually looking for an answer but rather to make members think of the different attitudes one can choose to follow.

And not just here but for life in general. Too often I catch myself complaining about something, heck it can be as simple as seeing too much garbage on the sidewalk and complaining about it, yet I didn't stop to pick it up, ya know? This is as much for me as anyone, just holding ourselves accountable.

I do the same thing sometimes and it's amazing how easily it can become a habit. I think this may be the one thing I appreciate most about my daughter because just having her around clearly demonstrates how completely pointless it is to get too wound up about anything.

Well, I have to admit, this thread make me feel I have to reflect myself once a day!
And, true, when we complain, we maybe part of the problem!

That goes a bit far I think. You can't be part of the solution in all aspects of live. But you can usually refrain from being part of the problem in most situations, or so I think.

It's a funny thing, but I'm much more active when it comes to online communities than offline. I suppose I'm a bit shy/awkward when it comes to face to face interaction.

I do create a lot of problems (in most times, i do them willingly) Sometimes, i enjoy watching the result of the problems i have created for others. When i say problems, i dont mean the bad ones.

i dont think someone can be a part of a problem but victim, yes. See, for the one causing it, its not a problem. and i guess everyone wants to be a solution to the problem.

It's so easy to be part of the problem and It's hard to be the part of the solution
I admit that I'm a part of the problem. side commenting on spammers, involving in a flame wars with other forum members, making rude comments, cursing, not following forum rules and etc.
I also take part on reporting spam comments, rude posts and threads, but compared with the contributions of other members, my contribution is just a dust.
We all do have our share of mistakes and good deeds, we are not here to count it one by one to measure whether we are one of the solution or one of the problem. We are here to learn helpful things to ease our work (SEO,Web Dev,Blogging etc.)and also to help other members too and in the same time learn to interact to other members as we are different races and have different cultures.

Yep! I am the problem.. I created a problem, i create a complex between me and my surrounding, my personality, my gender, my belief i am the problem why there are people hate me, envy at me, i am the problem which makes my life more challenging with pain, hatred, apathy. And well i guess i would be the solution, i made up a mess then i'll clean it up!

maybe we're the same faye haha..
im the problem..
we all have choices and we have in our hands the freedom to choose.. though we know what's wrong and right.. we still have the hard time to choose what's the best for us..
we forget to consider the risks and consequences involved, the results, the people around us that we may hurt and ourselves..
im the solution..
i know what i should do but still i stick to my old decision because it is where im happy.. it is what i want and it is where i know ill grow as a better individual..
i dont want to be corrected by anybody because i want to learn from my own mistakes..

...and some of you thought I took this topic sideways
d00d, we've all gotten negative rep at some point or another. It's inevitable given the impersonal structure of any web forum and the fact that what you read can be misread by others.
The best thing to do is to not dwell on it and to work even harder to make the red insignificant given all the green you'll be awarded. How do you get green you ask? Create content that actually helps instead of hinders or worse, wastes a persons time in reading/responding. In all honesty, your post above only makes me want to click the - instead of the +, sorry.

I guess for the most of the time, we are just complaining without thinking about how to tackle it or at least help to imporve it!
But, after the kind reminding, I guess we shoudl do our little part to help this great forum to become better!

I usually grumble about it, then make my small contribution to solve the problem.
For example, in Singapore (where I stay), people tend to crowd around the train doors, preventing others from boarding and/or disembarking. Usually I'd just take the bus and avoid the crowd, but if I have to take the train, I just power my way through. Subtlety be damned. My wife does not approve of it, but I think if I can change how people act by my actions, why not?

I can be the problem but I can also be the solution in the problem.
I used to make problems but I used to fix problems also. So, what should I be called?

It's time for some of us (myself included) to take another look at this thread.
