Negative Impact of Technology On Society

In what ways do you feel technology has had a negative impact on society as a whole? What do you feel can we do to balance the positives with the negatives?

People now are more lazy and they are more dependent on the technology and that is one reason why many of people today are fat and obese..Just my observation..

Generally, our time is spent more in front of the computer doing internet stuff. I am not saying it's wasting time because there are a lot of productive things done on the internet. It's just that we are neglecting some things. Like family, friends, self and I am talking about non-virtual stuff and activities.

I think we should limit our time in using the internet so we can have time to the real things in life that will bring us incomparable happiness.

The other day I was at the mall looking at some gadget things and I saw this one toy, although I don't know how it is used, but I'm pretty sure that it is a controller for a game of fishing... I do remember fishing one time with my folks and it is so much fun, although I have to say that fishing using that game controller is interesting as well.

I remember how I used to enjoy biking around town, to school and back home with my friends when internet is not yet so popular, it was tiring and yes at times a pain in the butt but its cool cause you get to hang out with your friends... now, we either text or chat via internet... what a way to communicate huh.. although we can contact each other all the time, hanging out and doing fun stuffs is still better... Like meeting girls on clubs and pubs instead of browsing errrr,,, mmmm, you guys know that site... lol...

It is kinda scary at times though, although there are preventive measures, that the accessibility of information in the internet could make people more lazy... Although I have to admit that I almost never visit the library, I would still recommend it to younger people that I know - at least they wouldn't have any naked pictures of celebrity in there (or are there?). I'd still say hangout than to chat, I'd stay in line for hours just to see my favorite band or basketball player kick butt than to see it at t.v. or via internet, and as corny at may sound to other, I would still choose to write a card or so than to send an SMS...

Students now in my country is becoming addicted to an online games instead of going to school. They prefer more to stay in internet cafe. That's why some of our leaders here is commanding those internet cafe to have a curfew with the students. But some internet cafe not implementing it.

Generally people must learn how to do things in moderation.
Anything in excess is not good.

illegal pirating is more common with music and films
im not a fan of film pirating and would rather go to the cinema for a new release films

in the UK majority of internet providers threaten to cut connection speed and even cancel internet connections if caught downloading illegal material

I remembered the movie the "Surrogates", it is when the technological advancements of people lead to an indolent corporate world. Its so scary seeing you lying in your house', thinking while your replica (the VSI or the robots) is working, walking, driving etc. for you. That's no thrill.

Well its nice to see myself, getting tired to a certain things, working like getting a blood out of a stone than depending to a "thing" to do my work and responsibility.

The negative impact on soceity of technology is very evident here in our country(Philippines).

Back in the old days me and my friends used to play traditional games and we have very active childhood days back then.Unlike today kids are busy on playing computer games and not don't have the time to exercise and they even prefer to stay home and play video games/online games instead of going out and play traditional games like we used to do. Traditional games are part of our culture and its beginning to fade because of the impact of technology to the society.

What we do today is we play traditional games in our subdivision once in a while,
and we encourage the kids to play them to so that the tradition will carry on.
We share the knowledge about the traditional games and pass them on to the next generation.

A loss of culture is also a loss of identity.

Yap, I fell it! But we will feel in in some years, when new children will grow up...

One example - has grown count suicidal children. And one of reason, that children in internet can find more info about it!

Games - first reason of them were to chill out after job, school and so on, but now ...

many people live just for Games..

And so on and on...

But in general - I think everything will be ok

Internet has brought a lot of benefits. However, people are becoming too relied on the technology.
Now, a lot of people won't go out at all. They shop on line, they make friends online, they watch movie and listening to music online, etc. There is no need to move away from the desk.
It is definitely not good for health.

it has good sides and bad sides

now you can get access to a lot more infos and you're aware of a lot more things than before ( world news or very specific informations about whatever you want)

but a lot of people don't read anymore , don't get out that much , get fat and have less and less social life

People don't talk to each other.
I take a crowded sky train every day twice a day. All the people around me listen to their ipods, play their PSP, talk on the phone or send text messages, answer email from iphone or blackberry.

Everybody just pretend there is nobody else around. They are pushy, rude and inconsiderate.

I believe people never had that many friends with seeing so few people.

Technology really doesn't have a negative impact on society. It's a tool. It does make it for easier for single or small groups of people to have a negative impact on society though.

There's not much extra we can do. It's not much different than a farmer having a negative impact on society with the wooded areas they chop down for farmland. The only thing we really could do that's guaranteed to make a difference, is die.

I like simple Tough life,i hat too ease from this modren tecnology,the bad thing is that the modren technology has created alot of spaces between social interactions, i mean that people spend life too much busy and at the end dies with tired legs, and doest enjoy the real meaning of life.

People speak of the loss of community and culture due to technology and some of that is true. Has anyone considered though that some of this loss is actually transference of community and culture? Here we are, never having met face to face and yet we share concepts, ideas and values though we are not all of the same culture, creed or nationality.

Of course the downside is when Corporations gain the upper hand as in American Media or when Telecommunications laws lead to a loss of civil Liberties as in some places in Europe.

Telecommunications is an evolving thing and still not organic in a way that totally benefits us, I long for the day that happens.

Jobs destroyed by technologies, that the first step. Second step is competitors having new technologies destroying each others by slashing their prices. Third step customers buy the technologies to do their own jobs.

Negative impact: No more jobs, no more companies doing jobs for customers.

With the cheap cell phones, nearly everyone got cell phones in my country .. 5 years back when the computer was much expensive, only the few had the computer that time. The most of the youngsters were busy with playing sports in grounds, but now the number of childrens has decreased. Most of the people standing in the ground texting, listening songs and calling instead of getting into the games.. So, this is the one of notable negative impact on the youth ..

I also have become addicted of these techy things
