I have new laptop with wireless, etc. My other computers all go through a router, etc.
Is it worth the money to get the Norton Internet Security so I get a software firewall?

I use Norton, ZoneAlarm and AVG all at the same time + a seperate popup blokker and I'm behind a router. I'd say Norton is great though.

Buskerdoo, hardware firewalls are better. Your money would be better spent getting yourself a wireless router so that your laptop and other computers can use that. Though, as NDH said, don't confuse Firewalls and Anti-virus software. You'll still want some sort of AV software installed. AVG is free and extremely good. Don't let the price tag fool you.

Yep agreed.
98% of the time the laptop will be going through my hardware router, but the other few percent it might be connected via modem (in a modem only hotel). I normally use hardware router, norton or panda, and then 2 different spyware packages. That seems to keep me out of trouble.

Acutally zone alarm/zone labs isnt just a firewall. If you get the security suite it comes with everything you need for your computer to be safe from a fire wall to a antivirus program.

How is Zone Alarm for usability? I have a router so I have no use for any software firewalls, but I'm curious as to how it is. I am not much of a fan of Norton as it seems to suck up far too much memory than should be needed as AV software, let alone a whole suite. I've heard a lot of good things about ZA but have had no experience with it.

Zone alarm is amazing. I think its better then norton. I have a wireless router aswell and it is great. If you have a wireless network zone alarm will detect it and will ask you if its a shared or not shared network and you can add it etc.
Thats my few cents.

I use Grisoft's AVG, and I love it.
It's free (well, the version I have at least), and it runs awesomely, detects virus's and there are frequent virus database upgrades.
