As an Englishman looking in from the outside I find it pretty amazing that Reagan should have been voted the number 1 American of all time. What did he do to gain such an accolade? If I had to chose a few that might be worth the title I would probably go for someone like Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin or Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. If it has to be a "cultural" icon, then why not Elvis, John Wayne or even Elmer Fudd?
We all get some unexpected entries. In the 100 Greatest Britons we had David Beckham at #33 (higher than Charles Dickens!), Michael Crawford at #17 (higher than Sir Alexander Fleming!) and Princess Diana at #3 if you can believe it (higher than Darwin, Shakespeare and Newton!!). No logic in any of it.
