Do you still buy CDs?

Remember those shiny discs that, when placed on a little coffee cup holder-like tray, played music? Is the format dead and gone? Stores such as Borders and Barnes & Noble have drastically cut their inventory. I was in a small local store recently and the clerk said they used to sell 50 CDs a day. Now they're lucky to sell that in two weeks. Things definitely don't look good for that medium.

I own a total of 3 actual CD's. These are limited editions I picked up from eBay. (One is #3 of 75!) Unless it's some kind of collector edition, I'm more than happy downloading MP3's from Amazon or the like.

My musical tastes have always been off the mainstream grid, so finding these bands in a local record store is nearly impossible. Even back in the 80's I used to mail order music from Europe because I could never find anything I wanted in record stores here.

Personally, I'm glad we're no longer restricted to local record stores when it comes to music. For me - a lover of more obscure music, the Internet provides the wide variety I always dreamed of seeing in record stores.

The Internet is not good for record shop owners, but paradise for music lovers.

No. The internet is so powerful, I can get anything I want on the net.
But as for the music, I think the qualification of CD is much better than that on the net.

Been at least 6 years for me since I've gotten any. I prefer the good old radio in the car and whatever streaming channel I'm in the mood for at home. Commercials? That's why there's more than one station!

I still buy them, but right away I copy them ive learned my lesson runing many cd's ive spent 100$s on lol. So now I just buyem, copy & putem away till I need to make a new copy.

I love music & movies, Mainly becasue those are two industries Im affilated in with my branding business, so if your like me who listens to cd's over & over you know how I feel when tracks I dig dont play anymore! lol.

I purchased digitals before online, but I still rather buy the cd's "my SUV system is the reason why, it dosnt knock well with the radio :p & mp3's helpppp".

I have a bookcase full of CDs I don't use (transfered everything to my mp3 and my home media server). Everything is going digital. Another 5 years and paper books will be an endangered species as well.

I still buy CDs. I guess I'm old fashioned. Don't get me wrong, I get stuff from iTunes and such as well...but to me, a CD feels more permanent. So if its a release I've been looking forward to or a band I know for sure I like, I will still buy a CD.

I agree, CD's are more permanent, even though I haven't bought any in about 2 years. I still listen to LP's & CD's(remember "long playing records") on a tube receiver/phono. The sound of a HI-FI is awesome, CD's took the scratchiness out of the music and now the digital revolution is presenting all kinds of new options. However with each advance, some of the trueness and sound quality gets sacrificed, eventually, it will come around again and people may start listening to music available at audiophile outlets, on tube type equipment, because they will be amazed at the sound quality. So hang on to the CD's they may be valuable again someday.

I don't buy CDs any more. I listen mp3s and radio broadcast only. My last CD I bought was
Queen:Greatest hits in far 1999. But I did buy some DVD movies.

I am still buying CD these day but only my favorite ones. The recent one I just bought is "Marantz High-End Audiophile Test Demo SACD" to test my system.

In my opinion, MP3 sound quality is no match for CD and most of us already know. However, most of our ears cannot tell exactly different between them (in case MP3 file with 192+ Kbps sample rate). That's why CD can only be sold for specific listener group.

It depends if there is a film I like I'm buying for sure. And one think I don't like, is to have my computer full of files so I prefer have everything in CD's...
