Do you volunteer or do charity work in your neighborhood?

As the Holiday Season is fast approaching and we're all about to experience that Christmas good cheer, I was just wondering if you plan to do any volunteer work in your community in the next couple of months?

Or do you regularly volunteer during the year?

People send us their Christmas lights from all over the country and we have those recycled then donate toys to Toys for Tots. We've process over 3 tons this year. We also have other projects all year locally and abroad.

Do you feel a need to give back? How? Why? or Why not?

Volunteering benefits everyone! The recipient of your good will gets the benefit of your time, work and care. Society has the reduced costs and social problems that the extra, free work provides. YOU receive that inescapable feeling that you have done a good thing! Helping others should be a part of everyone's lives, as it improves the life of the giver as well as the receiver! I've done quite a bit of volunteer work in my daughter's schools, using my training to offer support to students and staff. I have loved this way of being a part of her school too!

I've started volunteering as an assistive yoga helper. The class is for people who have some type of mobility challenge, and I help them get in and out of wheelchairs, and get into the various yoga positions, which are usually modified. It really gives me a different perspective. I feel that I get much more out of it than I've ever put into it.

I am a member of a community organization, the Jaycees. We've been around nationally since 1920. Members include Charles Lindbergh and several former presidents. Locally we've been around since 1962. For anyone that's interested: http://lakegenevajaycees.org

We give back to our community. Support our FD, PD, city, and the needy. Food pantries, baseball, football, and other youth programs. The YMCA, Water Safety, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and on and on!!!

We're the largest non-profit civic group in the area, and larger than all others combined. And we're all guys. Its a lot of work, but well worth it. I served as President last year. Only down side is you get kicked out at 40. I will surely miss it!

I hadn't thought about how close the holidays are...I see the decorations starting to show up in the stores but I guess your post actually made me realize it more than that. I have always associated Thanksgiving with a local homeless shelter here. I like to go and just help serve a few plates up and my kids are grown now but they still come with me. I think it's one of the nicest things about the holidays.

Turkey's cheap. If you have a few bucks, or just forgo your entertainment expenses for the month buy a few frozen Jenny O's and bring them down to the local Food Pantry!

Most of my neighbors are elderly. I try to do something for those with no family and friends on a weekly basis. Take them their mail, change light bulbs, haul their trash to the street, clean their gutters, shovel their drives...

I'm going to be old someday if I live long enough. Karma... kind of.

Yes, I do volunteer, but not in a formal way. I work after office for our residents association and give the association leaders the required support. Always, I play the waterman role.
