I went to bed bent on buying it. But after having weird dreams, I slept myself out of it. But after seeing this thread again, Ive read myself back into it.

Ya know, if I found a suitcase full of cash this wouldn't even be an issue

Ok, I bought it... and much to my surprise, my wife paid for half of it
However, that does not mean I'm letting her touch it!!!

Cricket... the salesman suckered me into buying a UV filter for the front of the camera... Is this necessary? Im an DSLR newbie - He said it would protect the lens (Odd, I thought that was what a lens cap was for. It was $25 but I see them on ebay for $5

Edit: Added a pic of my loot

Excellent buy - seems like a very good deal to me; especially seeing how the wife sprung for half.

In my humble opinion, you should ALWAYS have a UV filter on every lens you own.

You moved quicker that I thought. My advice is still valid though.

Stock up on a nice body lotion and set your mind to a few nightly back rubs with no ulterior motives on your part other than the camera. One every other day or three for a week and who knows what nice camera accessory you might find in you Christmas stocking.

Who knows she might even get turned on after the first night.

I was sooooooo scared when I got mine. I couldn't take a decent picture for weeks and I was sure I never would. Then ya start getting braver and ya try every setting until ya suddenly start getting a shot or two that ya like. From that moment on you are addicted. The key is not to be afraid to experiment and take a zillion pictures.

It looks like Im going to have to get a "for Dummies" book because Im completely clueless about just about everything the manual is talking about.

Aperture, focal length, image stabilization, bla bla bla - I will either miss the point and shoot days and pull my hair out or eventually learn to ride a new bike

By the way, my wife says it has to go under the tree so I said "Ok, your half can go under". So far I have not defied her orders and removed my half

Put the thing in fully auto mode and go take some pictures.

Then read the manual.

HHmmm... any advice?
LOL, I told to my wife my next camera will be this one and she said: Oh sure !

Should read as:
