I get no reaction pressing ctrl+f. (I use Total Commander for searching my PC, it's lightning fast compared to the Windows search system)

Total Commander sounds like a good widget...

On my system (XP Corporate), ctrl-f puts the search dialoge in the left menu. I hardly ever have to search my PC, though. I know where everything is and I am pretty consistent about keeping it organized.

Ok. I have XPpro installed, maybe that's why.

Yeah, Total Commander (formerly Windows Commander) is a super file management system, maybe the best out there. I was told it was the best available a couple of years ago, not sure about now. It's really amazing, and the speed at which it searches is amazing. Not sure how much it cost/s because it was given to me as a gift 3 years ago. It's pretty complex though. There are several features that I'm still not familiar with.

It searched my entire c drive (25gig of files) in just over 2 minutes and came up with the path of the wallpaper files.

John..because you have a toshiba, you aren't using one of the default windows wallpapers, which is why it is not in the default location. Most companies do this. There is a likely chance that there is a toshiba folder on your C drive and that is most likely where your wallpaper is stored at the moment.
