No, I have not been handcuffed.

But oddly, there are a pair of handcuffs laying on the table in our staff room. Why they are there is beyond me.

I've never done any real jail time, just been detained.

Oh I forgot I got detained twice when I was 16, once for being a runaway ( I moved out at 16 and wasn't emancipated so I was a "runaway" ) the second because I let my dumbass brother talk me into stealing our dads beer and getting blitzed in store that 2nd hand store someone had left open with our girlfriends.

I have no idea how I was that stupid then but I was. Luckily his dad ( my stepdad ) was a sheriff so we got off. Our parents were realy embarrassed/ashamed.

I've never been detained or arrested...hell....I've never gotten a speeding ticket. But I have been cuffed.

First let me say, my parents have the same sick sense of humor that I do. They live in Florida and they frequently have guests coming to visit. So, they assembled a "hospitality basket" full of all kinds of stuff for their overnight guests. They had shampoo and toothpaste....magazines and candies....ohh...and HANDCUFFS!

So, when my husband and I went to stay with them, we were looking through the basket, and we noticed said cuffs. Ignoring the icky notion that God knows how many other people had worn these cuffs, I slipped one side on, and locked it.....assuming the key was in the basket.

....it WASN'T!

So.....after searching through the basket repeatedly, we gave up and went to my parents for help. Of course, they thought we had been "using" the cuffs.....and I was completely mortified. Turns out, the key was in the basket after all; it was just lodged deeply within the weave of the basket.

Taa daaa!

Uuuhh. That was years ago during my student days. Being a member of a radical youth organization Kabataang Makabayan (Youth Nationalist) and I was jailed for a week at the Manila City Jail.
