Do you buy second hand (used) clothes ?
Hi, i am a chinese , when i was studying in New Zealand, i was wondering to see people buying second hand clothes from the clothing shop. I would like to know your guys buy second hand clothes too ?
Most chinese don't like to buy second clothes because of believing an old clothes will not bring luck, especially you don't know who wear it before....

No, that's not right. I know people who do, but I don't understand it.

I don't go out looking for used clothes but sometimes people give me items that no longer fit them... no problem with that in my eyes.

Don't see the problem in it myself.
Like DaveyBoy said, you can find some cool stuff that you can no longer get in the shops.
I could give the money to charity or get some cool retro jacket that can't be found anymore and I'm still giving to charity.
Hardly do it anymore but used to in my teens

We get stuff for the kids. They grow so fast. It's nice to get brand name for $2.50 a pair of jeans.

Half my wardrobe is my brother in laws unwanted stuff, when you have $300 Maharashi jackets and such in there you cant really turn them down. As a general rule though if someone offered me some plain T-Shirts I probably wouldnt take them, same with underwear but thats just gross.

I hit the Army Surplus stores a couple of times a year because the used army clothes make great cheap hunting clothes.
For everyday clothes, I never buy used..but mainly because I never buy clothes for myself. It wouldn't bother me though. I was raised in a cousins hand-me-downs.

With kids, because they grow so darned fast, it's almost a necessity. Who wants to spend $$$ on a pair of kids jeans that their kid will outgrow on 2 or 3 months? I haven't bought any second hand clothing, but friends and relatives have given me tons of stuff and I'm thankful for it. If you were to buy every piece of kids clothing brand new... forget about having money for anything else, like food.

I'm not against 2nd hand. I did a LOT of that in high school, but I had blue hair then. I don't do a lot of 2nd hand now, but truthfully, I don't buy clothes very often.
I would do it when I have kids probably. They do grow to fast to be constantly spending bucks on new stuff, IMO. and I anticipate being poor so I'll probably be buying 2nd hand again for myself then too

Yeah same with me, usually Jackets though. Years back I did buy an old pair of combat boots that dated back to Word War II - I always wondered about the soldier who owned them

I buy new and second hand for my kids. I have very expensive taste when it comes to my kids wardrobe so that is the way to go for me. My kids are definately better dressed than I am! I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal.
I buy some things on ebay for them. The best part is I buy them on ebay, my kids wear them and then I sell then back on ebay - a lot of the times I sell them for more than what I bought them for. I put together nice auctions and usually get top dollar for what I sell.
For myself, I have bought I few second hand items, but since I will wear things for years (I may have some stuff from the 80's still in my closet ), I buy mostly new.

Well, I work at a mall and get a mallwide discount, so I can some some nice clothes for pretty cheap. There arn't very many good second hand clothes stores around here. There's one grimey salvations army, but that's about it.
