I live in a city that doesn't have a lot of crime, but I still lock my house and arm the security system. It's not really paranoia....I just like covering all my bases..

I never used to lock anything up. But these days, that's just stupid. Too many welfare bums with any entitlement mentality. They think if you make more money than they do, they are entitled to some of your stuff, money, etc.

It changed to locking your home.
I had this vision of your home rolling down the street at 5 mph.

Actually, it's made of cardboard. It doesn't "roll" so much as it "tumbles".

Jaguars lock their doors automatically as soon as you put the car in it's gear. I drove them for over ten years untill I had to go for a bigger car because of 3 boys. Our present car doesn't do that and I never lock my doors myself, I think it's kinda chicken to do such a thing. Besides, anyone who jumps in my car un-asked for is suicital anyway.

The FedEx guy delivered a package to my work the other day, so I signed for it. Anyways, he went back to his truck to discover that he had locked himself out while it was still running. I lent him my cell phone so he could call someone as he wasn't sure what to do. They had him bust out the side window to get back in. Apparently they'd rather pay to fix the window than lose time and have someone come out to unlock it.

that's understandable.
however, most fedex trucks are just contract drivers for another company... so it was most likely the truck owner and not "officially fedex" that he was calling.

I have been living in downtown Atlanta for over 4 years now, I lock my doors when I get in the car. About 2 years ago I had some whacko jump in my passanger seat and ask me to drop him off about 10 blcoks away. I said no and he got out. It was pretty random, but now I lock my doors all the time.

Zap's house does 5MPH pretty impressive!
I lock the house and I've been considering a security system because it's big and I'm always worried someone is somewhere else in the house that I can't SEE.... but I do leave the back door open during the day in case the kids get home early or the kids' friends get locked out and need somewhere to go. The kids know the house is unlocked in the back (if you can get thru the 4 dogs to get to the door - they don't like strangers much).

I have 2 security systems in my home. One is electronic, the other is a German Shepherd. I'd bet my life on the Shepherd any day!

so, you're saying don't waste your money cim?
I have 2 labs and a mutt in the back yard, and a cairn terrier and an extremely geriatric spaniel in the house. I feel pretty safe, but I always wonder just a bit... probably should just lock all the doors all the time. I always keep the front door locked, though. But I do feel like the dogs keep the people out of the back (it's fenced).
Now that everyone is familiar with my 'security system'

We honestly don't even use the electronic system over 90% of the time.
