Interesting. It seems a lot of us have had the "unexpected attempted passenger" thing happen to us at one point in time or another. I had it happen to me too, but it didn't alter my driving habits much. I might lock my door in a hurry (if it didn't lock automatically) if I was stopped at a light or something with "strange looking padestrian traffic". Things would also be different, now that I'm a parent. I'd probably start locking my doors when out on the road.

Oh yeah. It is.
they travel around looking for some rich person that they can rob (thier house anyway)...
then the host goes up and asks it they would like to take part and if they do then the owners go out to the van and watch on camera as these guys raid the house in broad daylight... even make up stories to police and neighbors, etc to get to keep going.
then when it's all over (only takes like 10 minutes to clean them out) they go into their house (which has been trashed and ripped apart) and see what all is missing.
after that the show brings all their stuff back and they meet the robbers and visit with them about what they can do to make things better.
then the host (an ex-professional robber himself) comes back and installs a kick @ss system on the house and teaches them how to use it.
then to make things even better they tell them that the robbers will be back to try again in the future and they won't tell them when.
Most of the time the people forget to use the stuff and they get robbed again just to prove how much of an idiot they are... lol
it's a very cool show and it involves some of the coolest tech gear that they put in these people's homes... I love it.

I don't think we have that show in Canada. We got our own version of the Discovery Channel and not all shows are aired nor are aired at the same time. TLC is the same so Discovery shows advertised on TLC are not always aired at the same time. The show last year on the Titanic was aired on Discovery Canada a few months later...
Yup, it ain't listed on DiscoveryChannel.ca

It sounds pretty interesting.
I imagine it's pretty scary, how easy it is in many cases.
It reminds me of a news story I saw (local) that wasn't a TV show, but just a single story. A cop in plain clothes tries to entice children to go with him, away from their front yard, into his car, etc. It was alarming how many (supposedly) street proofed kids just went with the guy.

@zap I saw something like that once... where they claimed to be doing construction and that they were blowing something up down the street and they told the teenagers to get in a nearby construction van for protection... then they told them they were police and that they had just been kidnapped (if the person had been a real kidnapper)...
The parents watched from a nearby vehicle and you should have seen how upset they got at their kids.

that is scary, but think about it from the kid's point of view. Parents are constantly telling you: listen to your teachers, do what they say; listen to the police, listen to this adult, that adult, do what we say, blah blah blah.
That's not really smart. You gotta teach kids to THINK and be able to trust their instincts when they think it's a bad situation, you know? Not just listen to grown ups because you know, they're not always right or trustworthy.

It's a fine line to walk....
Teach them not to trust strangers, yet respect authority, like the police.
It's confusing and challenging enough to me, let alone a child.
(Imagine, asking a cop to prove he's a cop - or a "demolition expert")

When I was younger my parents told me what to do etc, but what really got stuck in my mind was watching Unsolved Mysteries on TV and seeing what happened to those kids.

I lock the doors if I have something valuable inside, but if the truck is empty except for the CDplayer, it's always unlocked. Of course, this is whether a homeless person is next to me or not.

If I see a homeless person I generally stop the vehicle, get out and give them a few clouts side the head, just in case.

If they're real big or more than one, well, then I break out the key ring.

Seriously though, I've been that homeless guy, and more than a few times.
Yes, I lock my doors. I know first hand just how desperate people can become.

My kids were totally the opposite and managed to take complete advantage of everything they learned.
When my middle son (who is now 20 years old) was about 4 years old, he started throwing a temper tantrum in the middle of the store. I finally picked him up (arms and legs flying everywhere) to carry him out of the store. At the top of his lungs, he began screaming,
" HELP ME THIS IS NOT MY MOM!"
I have faint memories of wanting to tell security he was right. I had never seen the kid before in my life.
It took nearly 2 hours to sort the whole thing out.

You want to kill him for doing it to you, but at the same time, think it's great that he used that "tool" and hope that he remembers to use it if he really needs it.

I had an enemy of my father try to kidnap me in wal-mart when I was about 7... I screamed out and bit the guy... my parents found us and saved me... everyone claimed he was playing just to piss off my dad... but he (we) were headed for the door at a fast pace.
I think he would have taken me if he wasn't stopped.
