Just when I though I had already heard it all, I came across this story.

Scriptman. I sent you a reply to your pm. Also Just shows how stupid people can be! There is no common sense anymore have you noticed? If I was the judge I would have said to this fellow "Don't waste the courts time on your stupidity. Case Dismissed in the first 5 mins. But that is just me.

It's a funny story and made me smile. The only thing that irked me a little is how nowadays, so many people refuse to take responsibility for their own actions and always have to find a way to blame others.
Seems like those original Indians in the USA have finally won as it becomes a SUE nation (ok, I know it should be SIOUX)

You can't beat a teenager in a stupid idea contest. I mean, how drunk do you have to be to consider launching rockets with 10-15m range from your butt? The whole story, funny as it may be, shows a concerning lack of common sense

Helmburg claims - in a statement it would be difficult to deny - that "firing bottle rockets out of one's own anus constitutes an 'ultra-hazardous' activity," which exposes both defendants to strict liability.

On top of it all, youtube is filled with similar videos. Just to give an example click here. Also warning, it may not be suitable for younger readers.

While I've been drunk a time or two, even really drunk a time or two, I've never been that drunk. (And really don't believe I ever will.)

That's crazy, this is why I don't like parties very much, someone always does something reckless and ridiculous.

I guess ridiculous part is why people above other things organize parties. In a group of people someone will get too drunk, someone will make stupid things, someone will embarrass themselves. Can't stop people from being people. The problem here is teenage brain combined with fireworks and booze.

Just lock any rockets you may have in a safe place before you begin

Wow ... yeah the stupid things people do never cease to amaze.
Can you imagine a conversation between that lawyer and anyone else on this topic? I don't know if I could keep a straight face in court to argue this garbage.
Guess that's why I'm not an attorney (thank goodness!)

There is no need to imagine anything. The article in the introduction has quotes:
Quote:
Defendant Hughes was highly intoxicated on this date and time, and decided in his drunken stupor that it would be a good idea to shoot bottle rockets out of his anus on the ATO deck, located on the back of the ATO house. ...
Defendant Hughes placed a bottle rocket in his anus, ignited the fuse, but instead of launching, the bottle rocket blew up in the defendant's rectum, and this startled the plaintiff and caused him to jump back, at which time he fell off of the ATO deck, and he became lodged between the deck and an air conditioner unit adjacent the deck.
|
I would like to see how the judge reacted to this speech.

Many of the local judges here, where I have appeared as the plaintiff, would be taking their glasses off to wipe the tears of laughter form their faces and trying really hard not to LOL.
I am going to refrain from replying with the zingy lines for a few of the better posts above. I imagine your imagination will suffice.

I guess my imagination was on the imaginary conversation between him and his wife that evening.
(And yes, I know, they are not supposed to go home and talk about these things, but I can't help imagining it!)
Wife: So, what's that new case about?
Lawyer: Well, it seems this kid got drunk ...
And I think the judges I've been in front of would have had the same reaction, wiping away tears of laughter.
In spite of the problems I've had getting justice at times, I must say, the few judges I've been in front of have been quite good at seeing the truth in a situation. Just seems the law ties their hands, or they are afraid to do what should be done ...

Even when I had been bad the tears of laughter saved me.
Note to readers, If you stand on the side of the road with a sign that says "Radar trap Ahead", the police will find a misdemeanor charge that applies. That darned drunk tank is no place you want to spend time waiting to get bailed out. Once was enough. I have never been back.

LOL that's what the flashing lights for oncoming traffic is for. If you stand with a sign you get caught.
