How Can We Improve The V7N For You?
I would love to hear your input and ideas on ways that you feel we can improve the V7N for our members.
I can't promise I will be able to act on every idea, but I do promise to listen!

And I would love to tell you, but I have to say, you have a pretty good setup here.
I've run into tiny issues, but it's usually something that can be tweaked in settings or elsewhere, and it's not been an ongoing issue.
Sometimes "similar threads" gives me a better response than the search function, but I haven't taken notes or anything so it could just be me.
Sometimes I see things I would have liked to reply to when I get reps, and I didn't check often enough, but that's more a user issue too.
Oh, I will say that twice, have clicked on a member's name to reply to something they said to me, and it needed to go in a PM, and I *almost* sent it as a public note to their page, and that might not be wise sometimes. Maybe if you can choose rather than have that be default, or a warning before you post publicly? I'm not sure I've posted publicly to anyone's profile, so maybe you DO have that, but it didn't come up before I typed the message. That's about all I can think of.
If I think of anything else I'll let you know, but congratulations are in order for a really nice web experience here.

I will love to see my link more visible in the V7n directory featured as a V7N member, perhaps a special treatment for active V7n forum members.

I would love to see v7n send me money!
In all seriousness, the idea of long time active members receiving some additional exposure for one of their sites sounds good. For example, member X has been an active member for X amount of years with X amount of posts and has an excellent reputation gets a link (to be approved) at the footer of v7n. They could even rotate say 10 at a time. Thanks.

I may consider featuring some active members (with their linked bios) in some blogs posts.

Not much has changed?
Hey,
Let's get this right off the bat, "I've always loved webmaster forum and still do." Please take this as constructive criticism.
I haven't been to the forum for a while (~1year and only a drop in then...) but one thing that really stands out is it hasn't moved anywhere in both terms of functionality and design - is there a roadmap for the community?
I just have a few ideas (sorry but they are related to my field!): - - New design is needed - things feel 'weary'
- The coding forum should be split into sub forums, I may be biased so sorry if it sounds that way but it doesn't mention ASP.NET anywhere... and especially the majorly popular MVC release which would attract more visitors since your SEO is good.
- More quick links could be useful: -
- Unanswered threads
- Unresolved threads
- Most active threads
- Latest sticky
I'm a fan of 'don't fix it if it's not broken' and so for instance the editor used to create posts/comments is absolutely fine but I think other things seem 'tired' to me.
Let's push some changes through as a community!
Since I'm back I'm going to lots more active - fire any ASP.NET related questions at me and i'll be happy to help!

I agree with the design points you've made. My only fear is having to re-learn the usage of the forums. As far as cosmetic changes (colors, etc.), That sounds great. The current "tones" are a bit drab.

I would recommend having some moderators go through all of the thread titles and improve them, by correcting spelling, proper capitalization & grammar.
Also punctuation, like including apostrophies when needed, question marks, etc.....
This will definately improve V7N for visitors, it will also help improve search engine listings in which V7N appears utilizing keywords found in thread titles.
This will make the forum much more neat, make it easier on the eyes, and shall improve overall forum navigation and management.
I hope this helps!
Much Thanks,
BiologyWebmaster

For SEO reasons we do not change titles that have already been indexed.

This is a good point and I can see where you are coming from with this, though there is something else to bear in mind here..
A lot of threads have correct spelling within their titles and some don't, this is also good for search engine optimisation as it shows "real world" spelling, not entirely correct I agree, but there are obviously people that search for things and don't spell it correctly themselves, thus allowing the threads with the mis-spelt words to be found.
Believe it or not, it is actually a technique used by some seo's and there are actually programs dedicated to the mis-spelling of words so as to pick up that traffic also.
Besides, if you corrected all the mis-spelt threads, that would end up altering almost all posts by admin and mods

We can increase V7N by adding some more categories or topic in the forum.

What categories would you suggest?
This would help Cricket know what you are thinking right now.
Thanks

How about having an automated delete for the word "backlinks?"
Actually, I'd like to see some more 'stickies.'
The search function is only useful if you know what you're looking for.
Also, my experience is very limited in the general niche of this forum, so I probably am missing out on a lot of info...
- but there are probably a few other like me, who would probably dig a "check this out" or "cool stuff you haven't seen before" type of thread.

Even though I am one of the newest members, one of the features that right off the bat I noticed that wasn't normal was the "New Posts" feature. I think "New Posts" should be renamed to "Latest Posts" because you have issues with old threads bumping back up to the top.
Then create a new section called "New Posts" or "Today's Posts" (last 24hrs)... to show the actual newest posts....
Great site either way...

While we are at it, a 'Unanswered Threads' button would also be cool

Does v7n have a iPhone app? Or is registered with Tapatalk (I couldn't find you)...
That would be a improvement for me as I like to browse when I'm on the go and the site doesn't come up great on a iPhone, everything's too small.
