I read that, but his statement directly followed the statement that compared saturated rice with dry rice.
It was unclear if his statement built upon the previous one or if it was standing on its own.

True enough, and that includes Snopes articles.
And that was my point. Can't just take these things at face value anymore.
Incidentally, I spoke to a bird expert friend of mine.
I don't know if she's an ornithologist, but she's definitely a bird girl and I trust her judgement.
(That's worth more to me than 3 experts in print that I can never contact)
She said that, while it is possible that the bird's stomach could explode after eating rice, the chances of it happening are very slim. The bird would have to fill up on rice and then drink a large amount of water relatively soon afterwards. In her opinion, not worth worrying about due to the fact that it almost never happens.
