My Internet Cafe

I've got the go ahead to start an Internet cafe in Hiroshima. The name I decided on is Happy Coffee. (You'd have to be Japanese to like that name, I'm guessing.)

It'll serve starbucks brand coffee, with a few computers on high speed internet. I'll put one of my plasma TV's on the wall, with super soft brown leather sofas. What I'm aiming for is a relaxing atmosphere.

Looking for feed back as far as cafes go. What do you like to see in a cafe?

High speed hot spot for laptop owners.

Private tables (two seaters)

Chess/checkers/backgammon

I'll keep thinking

You on about decorations or the menu?

I would definately have your staff in a uniform of sorts, even if it's just all black with a black polo top with your logo on it. Always adds to the place.

Proper coffee machine and bean grinder as people just love the smell of fresh ground coffee beans - It's a very addictive smell and seems to keep people in longer.

Quite brightly lit as if done corrctly, it looks very inviting, clean and attracts the right clientele.

Comming from a catering family background, I am only good at comenting on the menu, uniforms and the coffee machines really.

Chess and high speed WiFi - great ideas.

Also, outdoor seating, and it's a very high foot-traffic area.

The problem with putting games in a place is that people can get pretty wrapped up playing the games and though they spend a while in your place, they don't spend as much money.

A native Japanese, I guess.

It sounds great. I'll post if I think of any other great things.

You'd probably have the same issues with Internet and public computers. If you're busy enough you could place minimum orders on table seating. If you're not busy at first, it's nice to have bums in the seats to give the impression of being busy.

I agree Trap.

New places usually do pretty well in the first week or two if advertised correctly. Thats your time to make a good impression and keep the buggers, I mean customers

Usually places do pretty well when they are advertised just before they open and they have the formula right when they do or else bad reputation spreads quicker than wildfire.

Personally I'm never a fan of this, whether for choirs or servers or whatnot. With food it creates spillage problems (from experience). Also, the white against the face washes out everyone, especially those with light skin and dark hair (ie. all Japs). After a a while the shirts will lose their brightness with washing, and the clean look will fade down the drain.

Just my CAN.

Definitely put a fold-down diaper changing station in both the ladies and mens rooms (if you have the space for it). My friends use the ones at Starbucks all the time. (actually....several of them use it every time we meet for coffee)

That's cool but I was thinking more about whats on the menu.

Obviously you have done your research and know what the locals are into, does not take too much prep and holds a good profit

BTW - White gets dirty very quickly dude, someone just has to breath on it and it stains.

I doubt I'll even need to advertise. It's on the "shotengai" - the street that is set aside for merchants. It's got the most foot traffic of any place in the city.

I don't know if coffee incorporates espressos, lattes, etc, nor even if your patrons will want it. Something to consider?

You should have your workers dressed in Sailor Venus outfits. Girls and guys alike. Yes, this includes you.

I won't work there. I actually would like to do a full-fledged American restaurant. Would be fun. But need more space.

Why not just go all the way and have them dress them like The village People

I had to look up Sailor Venus. Sounds like a different kind of cafe.
