Yes, that's easy to do. Make it load a 50000x50000 pixel image that says "I STEAL CONTENT!".

I did some research and investigation, and then blogged about it.

http://tech.v7n.com/2006/07/10/content-theft-via-rss/

Now I hope it shows up on the loser's site soon.

Nice article Julie. What I don't get is that this pc-news site isn't gaining anything from doing this, usually I see sites that use rss feeds for content cluttered with (usually google adsense) ads but I couldn't find one single ad on that site.

Isn't that weird?

Ferre he might be building the site up, trying to get some links some readers, etc then add the advertisements. Common practice actually

Oh ok, thanks EBK, I didn't know that, I'm not into ads on my own sites, they are all ad free, most sites that I visit nowadays annoy the hell out of me because of those 'spammed by gooooooogle' ads and the like that reduce the pleasure of reading the actual content because of the 'strategic placements' of those ads and I'm not going to feed my visitors this crap for a couple of bucks, it's not worth it for me. I've had a few requests in the past from companies that wanted to advertise on my sites and when I find out what they actually want to pay it just makes me laugh. The last one offered me $30/month for five text links in the footer of my forums, bunch of jokers.

Anyways, funny new article. Hasn't shown up on the other site yet. It's probably saving a local copy and will update sometime in the near future.

It's interesting that that site lists the V7n Tech Blog as a contributor, as if it were voluntary.

Sorry but I think theres a bit of over reaction here.

Surely the point of RSS is that people can USE your content? If you dont people to use your content then don't offer the availability of RSS through your blog.

You'd look stupid if you took someone to court when you'd offered the content in the first bloody place

The point of RSS is to allow people to use part of your content, with links back to the site. RSS - traffic generation.

The fact is, he didn't use RSS. He copied and pasted the content.

I was figuring that since they sure look like regular post. You would be shocked how many people THINK it is okay to use content as long as they give credit somewhere. (At least this is the excuse I hear the most often.)

I did not previously see this post. Good catch Colleen!

I don't have it list "contributors" and articles link back to the source on the single post page.

Yeah, I had to edit my templates to do the link back, it seems he used the plugin out-of-box and didn't bother to make the articles link back to the source.
