Well that of course depends on the situation and the person. The last true fight I got into was a guy at a party who had thrown his girl friend down to the ground. I 'lucky for him' was drunk and passed out, some people awoke me, I stumbled to him, picked him up by the throat, threw him into the cement and broke some bones

'call me an ass but I DO NOT put up with guys hitting woman under ANY circumstance!
That being said though, if the guy had a gun or a knife that would have changed the situation. Are you capable, is there a chance of doing anything positive or are you best off trying to get help or be a witness, each case is different..

True, and that's why I said it would be a mistake to simply close down the cruise line as that would be ignoring the true problem. Investigate and change the rules, the laws. I hate big government, but this is a case something needs to be done IMO.

You pay good money and have an expectation of safety on a cruise ship I would think, it is up to them to provide a safe experience. Yes tragedies can still happen, but when they happen did the cruise line do everything they could or do they use the 'cop out' such as you listed 'what could we really do?'.. That IMO is the difference.
