Actually I was thinking it could have a vacuum pump whose electric motor runs momentarily to extract most of the air after the lid and/or drophatch shuts.

The Cricket...Cricket, why do I get the feeling that among this group of caffiene junkies, you make the rest of us look like amateurs???
As long as we're building the dream machine, I need it to have a refridgerated, sealed hopper for cream/milk. Can't stand the powdered crap and I've got enough hair on my chest so I don't do black. Gotta wimp out with a little heavy whipping cream and some sugar in my mud

From some of the posts I've seen...that may be the understatement of the century!! Didn't I see somebody post a picture of your 55 gallon coffee cup.
Whoaaaa! I went to do a search to try to find the link and came up with too many hits to dig through!!!!

When I was a little girl, I used to watch my daddy drinking coffee in the morning. I remember thinking that when I grew up, I was gonna drink coffee just like him.

Good idea, and one for sugar/sweetner. Programmable functions, of course. Brewed coffee will be fed to a mug station that will be situated below the sugar/creamer feed tubes, and where a ranging laser stops the flow of coffee when it reaches one inch from the rim of the vessel.

Reason: corrected spelling of 'programable' and 'lazer'

This coffeemaker you are designing sounds like something NASA could build, at a cost of $5 million not counting the beans.
One should be passionate about coffee if one is to drink it. There is little point in fostering indifference about one of the pillars of life. (Or in drinking indifferent coffee. Life is too short.)

I agree wholeheartedly on the passion...but if we get NASA to build it then the range finding laser will burn holes in the cups!!! Can't have dribble cups for hot coffee

Perhaps you should think of adding an intravenous attachment so you don't have to bother to get up to make it. That or a loooong straw...

You're thinking of the Starbucks "One-Shot" (peripheral line) or "Seattle Slam" (central line). They've got a lock on the patents for that, I'm afraid.

I want to savor the taste, so injecting it isn't an option.

The laser beams used to range are harmless I believe, as are the laser beams that 1000 yard range finders use. Well, not harmless, but, I believe they're in the saftey class where the beam is potentially hazardous to your retina if it is pointed at your eye, but it doesn't hurt you if the beam lands anywhere else.

It has to dump the old grounds, somewhere though. Maybe ours are prepackaged so it just dumps the used packet.
And yes, it needs a place for cream and sweetners.
As long as we are at it, maybe it can sense our moods and add Baileys Irish Cream as needed.

The lip of the vessel shall be in place when it touches a bumper situated in the middle of the mug station, where directly above, the laser will be situated and the measurement takes place. One beam must point beyond the lip to the middle of the mug, and the other straight down at the top of the lip touching the bumper. The difference in the changing measurement of one will be compared to the other and the flow of coffee will be stopped when it's level reaches one inch from the top of the lip.

Someday someone will invent this. We will be old and gray, sitting around laughing about when we dreamed it up at the V7N and no one will believe us.

A frontal hood can be used to protect against accidental beam deflection, a fool-proof holding station, if you will.
There will be a back-up shut off circuit that detects overflow.

Hey, you guys had a lot of fun with this after I had to bail!!!
And Atom, my only concern with the lasers are if NASA builds it as watley suggested. It will end up overdone and over powered
Cricket, I definitely agree on savoring the flavor but every once in a while I want the IV option for those morning I just don't want to move enough to get to the first cup. Especially in the winter for me. Warm bed or freezing cold atmosphere.....hmmm....just lay here for moment longer....zzzzzzzz.......buuuuzzzzzzzzz.....damned alarm clock...shut up!
