The new BSG (Battle Star Gallactica) is really good, great special effects and really well written. I would also recommend Lost, incredible characters and plot twists you would never expect. I just finished watching Breaking Bad, well written, good plot twists and goes to dark, dark places.

I loved Breaking Bad and would definitely watch it again. I really liked lost as well, was a long time ago when it was out so i dont remember much about it apart from the story was crazy. I think i will have a look at GSG tonight.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that there might be shows that you think you won't like, but you have to be willing to try watching an episode or two to be sure.

It's funny, some of my most favorite shows are ones that I originally hated.

Lost
Sons of Anarchy
Dexter
Prison Break
Breaking Bad

My favorites, yet I never started watching them until they were either done the series, atleast on the last season or two. I'd see commercials or other people talking about them, and I just thought the shows looked stupid.

Some other ones I'm currently into at the moment that are pretty good too.

The Walking Dead
Bates Motel
Hannibal (didn't even like the movie--but the series is good)

I'd suggest watching all of these shows listed here
