I remember going to school in First Grade and my teacher was probably around 60 years old and she had a wooden paddle next to her desk. For the first couple of months a couple of the kids got spanked with the wooden paddle and that scared the heck out of me. Fortunately I never acted that bad to receive a spanking but the point is that nowadays a teacher would never spank a child with a wooden paddle without getting sued .

I don't ever recall getting the paddle. I do recall the wooden ruler on the knuckles a few times. I bet they don't that any more either.

When I was entered Junior High (grades 7-9) our gym teacher - a huge man who, as urban legend had it, had some kind of connection with the Glob Trotters (to this day I think it was just gossip). Maybe he was a sub, or an alternate - I don't know, but he came up to me the first day of school gym class, asked me my last name, asked me if I had an older sister (who was a bit of a rebel-rouser) who went just went on to High School. I told him my name, said yes to the sister question, then he kind of wet-noodle tapped-slapped me, and said "that's for your sister". He and I got along well for the next 10 months of gym classes and during that time I'd heard another story about him picking up a kid (a real bad one) by the collar, feet dangling off the ground, and shoving him up against the lockers in the hallway outside classes, when he found out this one kid had disrespected one of the older woman teacher. True stories.

I remember when always I was a kid and kind of an addict of "Super Mario Bros". I remember playing it at my aunt's house all the time. I also played Duck Hunt, Super Contra, Jungle Contra. All the games were such a fun, I remember I was a pro at all of them.

And then PlayStation appears, ruined my childhood memories.

Here's an interesting one for you..

A school master from Swabia, south-western Germany, kept a book logging all his punishments. Over his 51 year career he administered 911,500 canings and 121,000 floggings, at an average of 400 chastisements a week. Punishments ranged from 700 boys being made to stand with peas in their shoes and 6,000 were made to kneel on the sharp edge of a stick.
I'm guessing this guy may have had anger management issues!

If you chastised a child constantly and the caning lasted 5 minutes, that would be 396 canings in 33 hours.

One would have to be superhuman to muster the strength to even attempt that!

I remember when I used to look forward to reading the Sunday Comics section and getting a good laugh from reading strips such as "Family Circus, "Garfield" "Beetle Bailey" and "For Better or For Worse". Nowadays it's probably been at least 10 years since I actually have had a Newspaper subscription.

I remember not recognizing any incoming phonecalls, because it simply wasn't possible to track the incoming call in the first part of the nineties. Also remember when my dad bought his first mobile telephone for in the car. It was great! Big device, that looked really really good.

I remember being young and ignorant. I was willing to do everything for everybody, and I don't think that I was actually helping my friends that way.

In the US, I have you beat. I remember 19 cent a gallon and 3-4 cents lower when they had a gas war. Now the war always goes in the other direction; they try to charge as much as they can.

I remember when I used to go to the stores like ShopRite and IGA play the arcade games for just 25 cents for about 1/2 an hour or until my mother was finished shopping. Nowadays ,their are hardly any Arcade games in the entrance of stores. It seems that kids of all ages have available to them phones or tablet devices that keeps them occupied.

I remember when we have to gather around with neighbor friends and go to a large playground and play our own game. Now, the little ones are staying indoors most of the time facing laptops, mobile phones, pads, desktops, etc.
