Tell me about your country's holidays

I am sitting here on Thanksgiving eve (US) and I know it is not a holiday tomorrow for all of you. Our Canadian members have already celebrated theirs. I know our Indian members just had or about to have Diwali.

What I am truly interested in is what your major holidays are. I think we humans find a basis for holidays at about the same times. We just call them different things and celebrate for different reasons.

So tell me about yours! If you choose to copy and paste something be sure to include it in " " and attribute the source.

Have a great day tomorrow whether you consider it a holiday or not.

Do you have some holiday in November?

My opening post said we people find an excuse to have a party.

Thanksgiving wasn't a holiday in this country until Lincoln declared the first one in 1863 and contrary to popular opinion it is not religious based.

In the Netherlands we got some public holidays. The most well known is Kingsday (27th of April). It used to be Queensday (30th April), but since Willem Alexander is king it's Kingsday and the date changed.
