For me, eating from "Dons" is more about feeling like there's a lump of lunch in my stomach afterwards. That, and feeling bit of regret and dabble of shame afterwards.

Sounds interesting. I'll have to ask my son about it. He works part-time in the seafood dept of a local grocery store.

Earlier today for lunch I had some Pernil, which is a slow roasted pork seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and Adobo.
It's a Latin Caribbean dish that is really good but it does make the heart cringe a little.

He must be from mangoland.

Many people in the UK don't understand seasonality thanks to supermarkets importing from every corner of the globe.

UK children (under 9's mainly) were surveyed about food provenance and a large % have no idea where food comes form, and I don't mean the country. Cheese is thought to come from animals. Fish fingers come from cows, etc!!! Scary world we live in nowadays.

I don't believe in perpetuating such misconceptions. The other day I told my little one "the bacon that you like comes from peppa pig...." She was shocked at first but she'll come around. I'm certainly not telling her it comes from the supermarket.

It has nothing to do with perpetuating misconceptions, unfortunately, and more to do with down right ignorance in a large part of society due to ready meals, lack of education etc. Many of the parents of these children don't cook (can't cook) and have no idea themselves.

Todays lunch? An awe inspiring two slices of aged cheddar on a fresh bakery bun with just a touch of margarine. Let's not forget that Special K protein bar and yes, another cappuccino!!

Strange, I've never come across an adult who didn't know where food ingredients came from. Even if people don't cook, surely they've taken a trip to local farmers' markets sometime? There were plenty of those when I was in the US, so I'm assuming UK has them too.

That quintessential British dish - Chicken Tikka masala! Had it twice today, for lunch and for dinner.
