Do you feel bad for a spider when someone steps on it?

Yes. When I find a spider in the house I apologize to it before whacking it.

Yes, I won't kill them.
I take it you are afraid of spiders then as most people are just cool with picking them up and putting them outside. Quite a lot of people that don't are usually too afraid to even touch them.

Oh, my. I'd hate to be the encourager of pointless questions.
I really wish, though, that I could pick up spiders and take them outside. I honestly do hate killing them. I won't kill ladybugs or moths or those little pollywogs. Instead I nonchalantly place a paper towel in their vicinity until they climb aboard (or in the case of moths, try and gently catch them in a cup) then take them outside.
But, spiders are too fast and hard to keep on the towel, so I smash them...very quickly, so hopefully they don't feel much pain.

I kill, and I imagine torture, thousands of fire ants each year.
I often question this action.

They build mounds on the lawn.
I say torture because I use that insecticide on them, poor bastards. It's either that or just plow through them with the riding mower. I dunno .. I suppose using that fire ant stuff is not right because they're always just popping up elsewhere, and I keep chasing them around like. heh

Sorry...but I don't feel bad for stepping on them. I had a horrible spider bite on my shoulder once...now they all pay for it

well if the spider was a upstanding contributing member & had a family I might feel remorse but not if he was a crack addict on welfare

Better keep them away!!!
In my personal view, I don't like insects at all!! If it's a spider or an ant, I don't kill. But if they are in a group, I don't think anything.... Kill them!!
I love animals though..
