Where to get forum mods?

Hi all,

As you all remember, a while ago i was asking in the forum how to promote my board, how to drive traffic in and so on.
In no small part thanks to your advices, the promotion worked on well, and now i constantly have between 500 and 1500 users online. its really great and i am happy that it was lifted off the ground so successfully (took a while but we got there), BUT... here comes the problem - we need more moderators.

The amount of spam is not big, in fact the board is rather organized but still need more mods than we have at the moment.

I don't want to promote any of the existing members because:
- they will be "emotionally" involved and will let small things slide to other members who are "good friends". having someone from the outside could be a lot better, IMO, however, where to get this "someone"?

does anyone have an idea where and how to get someone? the board is mainly photoshop tutorials / webmasters oriented (link in my sig)

thanks!

You need people you can trust... a good idea would be to let the users decide.. if you can't.. but hey you may HAVE to choose... just expalin it all.. and they should resepect that..I would.. and if they sulk or anything..it will pass..

You may need at LEAST one from in the forum, one that can assist you knowing the members.. a new mod may not have the benefit of knowing whos ok and whos not.. that alone could take them a few weeks...

Or have a trial period for someone you trust there, and explain that to all and should be ok..

Hope it helps a little.. as a mod myself, and having had a forum in the past, I know what you are after and how hard it can be..

Rob

What did you set your "who's online" time-out to? Just asking because it looks like it goes back about 12 hours or more. Was that intentional? Most boards set it to 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Not hours.

thanks Rob!

well, i am a mod in some other forums as well, but it seems to be a lot harder when u r the admin and everything, including the decisions, falls on ur shoulders...

i know i need someone i can trust, but i also know that if i take any of the ergular members, they will be too tolerant towards some members and too strict towards the newbies, so that is a lil` confusing and i thought that having some fresh blood will help

John, it IS set to minutes...to 180 minutes

Hope you do find suitable ones... it is a burden.. but think of the rewards of being the hostest with the mostest....

That is set to at least 11 plus hours.

You might want to fix that. It shows as online people who haven't been online for hours.
