What a wonderful Halloween subject. Let me chip in:

I crushed my thumb in a punch press. Flattened the bugger to something like half a centimeter. Blood came out the sides, right through the skin. Blacked out for about 15-30 seconds, but remained standing while everyone in the shop came running to lift the press manually. I remember crushing the thumb, calling my foreman, and the next thing I know I'm standing there with everyone else there too, trying to reverse the machine...

Anyway, recovered for the most part, but the thumb is a bit thicker, and I lost lots of motion due to a cracked join which grew over with scar tissue. Fun, fun, fun. Got a lousy thousand bucks for permanent damages (mind ya I was 16 or 17, so at the time it seemed like more money than it really was).

OMG!! You are lucky that your thumb is working.

I wish it gets better soon! I still remember the weird pain when I had damaged my thumb in a sewing machine. Yours got completely cut off..
