Good idea, because I don't think those items will make it here unless the company choose a different delivery service.

541 A Laugh at my expense

So I was just making a pecan pie for Turkey Day. It was a new to me recipe.

So with my apologies to Trisha Yearwood, here's my story.

Oh such a pretty pie when you carefully place all those whole pecan halves on top of the filling in lieu of allowing them to float up as they will.

Turned around to place it in the oven and saw my melted butter which I forgot to add to the filling.

No choice really. I carefully poured the filling and top nuts back into the mixing bowl, added the butter, stirred and poured it back into the shell.

We are probably going to call this the Ugly Pecan Pie.

It cooked but formed a skin across the top making it look more like a Chess pie than a pecan pie. The nuts did not float to the top like when using the Karo syrup recipe. Perhaps that is the magic of the Karo method.

The taste test is delayed until tomorrow and I will try to take a pic before we cut the pie. In the unlikely event I have created a whole new pie that is just fabulous I will need the photo.

I see a whole new business start-up if it turns out to be a fabulous "new pie".

How big is your oven?

The oven isn't the problem. My wallet isn't empty enough to for me to stand all day long making pies.

I was listening to the radio this morning and one of the morning show hosts was originally from the US. He said that he, and many people he knew, always scheduled the dinner between the two football games? He said the only issue with that is the food coma that comes after dinner usually negated watching the second game.

What time is your din schedule for today?

The big day was a 3PM sit down. Pretty much a one meal day.

Pie was edible but nothing to brag about.

There goes another great business idea: "Mystery Pies - You never know what yer gonna get".

Black Friday - did some serious working out of the credit card.

Head to the cash for the 10th time. Put card in card reader, type in pin (hope to God it gets approved - it always does, but you never know): "Winner-winner chicken dinner"!

LOL.

Sometimes it is like that.

554 For HTML and anyone

If you get the Chicago super station WGN on your cable you are the winner.

4 weeks of years past Christmas specials from a lot of the old big names. Starts in a couple of days.

Not sure if that one is in my cable package or not. Will check though. I have 999 possible stations on the cable box. About 4 are "true 4 K" channels, which are marginally better than the HD. Sometimes hockey is on them and will watch it from the 4K channel now and then. About 5% has no programming yet. 20% or so, are of several languages I do not understand. Another 20% or so are "paid programming - movies and concerts". About 5% are in another package (give up some of what you've got and swap for what you don't have) and the rest, which is about 500 channels (if I've done the math correctly) include about 20 or so channels I regularly watch.

With at least the main cable company, at this time, we don't really have the ability to "pick and choose" individual channels you want to watch for a specific group of channels to watch. If you want the Golf channel, you get about 10 other channels you'll never use. If you want a specific football channel - again, you get a bunch that are repeats and some you'll never use. Sometimes the few Nature channels are a good change of programming, but you get at least a dozen channels of a different programming in another language you'll never watch.

Relatives arrive in two weeks for about a 10 day stay. They rise before most of the world does in the mornings, so they've got a "lock" on the cappuccino maker and the TV.

Sometimes I forget to grind the coffee beans the night before, and am apparently the only one in the house that is wakened by the shrill of the been grinder at 5:15am.

Now, I can get into the queue for the cappuccino maker so I can get my morning caffeine fix, but, just try to wrestle the remote away from them from watching Fox News (until about 10:00am) or "The W Network" Christmas movies for the next 12 hours.

The biggest, saddest, limitation of cable. I think I pay for 125 channels and watch maybe 10. Of those 10 at least 6 are higher quality off the air. My location is excellent for antenna and I get 19 off the air channels.

AMC is the only channel I can't get off the air that I watch a lot. When my promo price ends I may make some changes; just OTA and streaming. The problem with streaming AMC is you can't skip the commercials.

Actually, I'll correct myself, I watch maybe 10-12 channels - about 6 with more regularity than the others. But only occasionally going up and down the big dial looking for a movie or documentary series.

AMC is one of those channels I've got with either regular (square box TV display) and the HD version. Guess which one I watch.

I've also got Netflix for the gym area - programming isn't that bad and it's about $10 per month. Not a lot of recent movies, but the regular "series" programming - House of Cards, Homeland, Narcos etc, are not bad. And, they're about 45-60 minutes per episode - good enough for some cardio time on the treadmill.

I'm trying out Crave TV as well - but if I watch if from my gym area (that tv isn't attached cable or a "smart" TV), I have to "cast" to it, from my phone. Again, Crave hasn't got great programming, but I'm just looking around trying to figure out what I'll eventually settle with.

Doesn't look like we get that channel but W has already been playing Christmas movies 24/7 for a couple of weeks.

Correction.

I must have experienced a mind Phart. These specials are on Get.tv and while their site says I have a channel, I don't. They are on DISH and may be on your cable system.

Where I got WGN from I may never figure out.
