Our postal workers have been legislated back to work a couple of days ago. I went to the mailbox this morning to see what, if anything got delivered in the last day or so.

Besides the flood of bills, I found a flyer with some amazing Black Friday week sales. The sale ended yesterday.

Most of the postal guys are relocated witness protection people. I suggest you not piss them off by complaining. They might not handle it well.

When I called in to complain, I got a voice message returned:

Quote:
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for relief from stale mail, I can tell you what I do have - a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for residential customers like you. If you let this postal issue go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will deposit 6000 insurance/real estate flyers at your door every day for the next 6 months.

(no offence to any posties out there)

Today, December 3rd, is the 337th day of the year (338th in leap years)

Or, for something a tad more meaningful, today is "National roof Over Your Head" day

Okay.

Today Dec 3 1828. What happened in US history that would usher in one of the greatest atrocities this country ever committed?

I'd have to search it out, so perhaps you can tell us.

Andrew Jackson was elected president by the electoral collage. He was one of the main drivers of Native American relocation act which led to the the trail of tears march. That was only slightly short of genocide by the US government.

Ahh. I kind of thought it was about Andrew Jackson, but didn't know the significance of any actions as a result of his being elected.

They don't teach the truth in public schools. They dish out the sugar coated version.

The people and politicians of that glorified time period were just as self serving and corrupt as the ones in Washington right now. Most just happen to view them through rose colored glasses.

Anyhow. What special day is today?

I assumed everyone was expecting this one.

When I was a boy the insurance company calendar has a small blurb for each day, a sorta this day in history. I had a lot of fun quizzing my history teacher.

On the local front, wife tried to go for a site visit and found the parkway closed. She really ought to have more sense than to head into the mountains with an inch of snow in some areas. The news indicates most things in those counties closed for the day.

It's kind of funny here. The news station weather guy, that I watch, get's all "smiley-happy" when there's any kind of "weather" here. I recall last year, they were promoting the heck out of one snowy "weather event" moving in to our area. It was a "batten down the hatches" weather warning. A "get out the blankets and candles" type of sever weather.

You'd think it's one of those, "you might die if you don't heed this warning" type of situations!

Well, after all was said and done, we got about 6cm of snow (~ 2 inches) and all was good. No power outage, no "snow - stay home day". Just barely enough to qualify for the plow service to come by and do the driveway and walkway. A centimeter less of snow, and the plow guys wouldn't have come by.

Seriously - they try to sensationalize just about everything on the news.

In fact, I recall viewing a video of some "hurricane force" type of weather hitting one of the southern US coasts. The news guy was leaning forward into the apparent dastardly blowing wind, holding his wet-weather hoodie on trying not to be blown over while talking to the camera man.

Just then, two local guys casually walk by in the background, in shorts and t-shirts, like nothing is happening around them. Oh, ya - nothing was happening!! The two news guys were trying to sensationalize something out of absolutely nothing, which was actually a warm tropical slight breeze.

Ok....calming down....calming down..... Ok, I'm fine.

Take your meds!

BTW, I saw that video.

I agree with everything you said. Here on wkyt 27 they have a drama queen for a news director. After 50 years of loyalty to a station I have pretty much quit watching. I just can't take stomach it.

The other 2 local stations aren't quite as bad but are far from perfect.
