Spam reputation for host recomendation?

Not sure what does this mean or if its okay to discuss it. I just noticed a Spam #1 reputation given by Scott because I recommended Pair Host?

I was just recommending a host I am using how is it a spam or how I can recommend a host which I have never used?

Help me understand

It's really hard to gauge the sincerity of a person who out of nowhere recommends a hosting company. It happens so often that when a person, good intentions or not, begins a new thread with the intent on recommending a hosting company, it has the tendency to look like spam.

It's hard for anyone to say whether the host is a company owned by you or not.

So, if you have a hosting company that you are truly amazed with, when someone requests a referral(which doesn't happen very often), then you should step up and say "Hey, I know of a great company". Other than that, it's probably best to keep hosting companies to yourself.

I do not have hosting company, there was no affiliation or any direct/indirect gain to me by recommendation. I recommended a host which I was using for nearly 2 years, completely in line with the sticky as per my understanding.

If you think I am the owner of Pair, I wish I could be, check WHT and their site they are one of the oldest and most reputable host

there are several threads in hosting forum asking for host recommendations? so which host do you supposed to recommend ?
