I was told...

long story sort
I was having problems with editing a c++ rpg game, and was told I need a c++ complier.
1. what exactly does a complier do
2. does anyone know of a free one that I can download

Uh, yes. A compiler will really come in handy when trying to execute c++ code.

Many free compilers exist. Do a google search. You'll likely find GCC the GNU compiler. That one works, as do a dozen others. You need to find one that works for you.

Are a lot of C++ compiler but you maybe need just one of hundred compilers

I have an adress for an compiler..bloodshed.net/devcpp.html...check here..

And it is best to use the compiler the code was originally written for. All compilers are not alike. The should be but each has it's own little quirks and frequently functions that are unique to it.

A compiler is the program that converts the text file you are writing or editing into machine language that the computer can understand and execute.
