WHAT?!?! Your profile says you are in NY. I know a lot of NY state is rural but I didn't know there were any buffalo there! Did my leg just come off in your hand or that was actually filmed by you in your backyard?

No, I am not pulling your leg. We live about 75 miles outside of NYC. We are not THAT rural, but there is a cow farm a few roads over that have these buffalo? bison? yaks? (my husband and I don't know what the heck they are.). They apparently got loose and walked down my driveway and were hanging out in the backyard by my kids swingset until they finally ran away. They are really huge!

That's pretty cool if you ask me Technically they are bison it looks like. There are no real buffalo in the US but its what most of us call bison anyway The other part of that picture that freaks me out is all the snow. Thank goodness I'm not where you are

My dogs won't let cats anywhere near here, so those are usually pretty safe.

Yeah, I think they are bison, too.
We have quite a lot of snow now, but the good thing was we didn't get any until the very end of February. I was happy about that, but my kids drove me nuts asking me when it was going to snow!

He looks very cold though. Ya think I should offer to warm him up on my grill?

Buffalo meat has a higher iron content than I care for. Iron for those who don't know is the wild meat taste associated with venison and game birds.
Give me a good old black angus steak or burger anyday.

If your venison has a "wild taste" you aren't doing it right.

How many burgers and steaks can you get from an animal that size ? Our freezer is starting to run low on meat.

I never knew that North American Buffalo were in fact not Buffalo at all. I looked it up (cause I don't trust no one). Here is what I found http://www.notitia.com/bison/Buffalo.htm.
So, the Buffalo Steaks I get at the grocers, is that one of those "real" Buffalo, or is it North American Bison? Hmm?
