Edit: Added smilies for your reading pleasure
I read something here today that reminded me of the time I first started in the online world. (won't mention it to protect the innocent but i will say they weren't asking a stupid question..). I find it amusing when I look back at the things I did and thought when I started out in IM.
I did not start in 1996. I had never touched a computer back then, I didn't like them.
I don't know what the purpose of this post is, perhaps a little humor and perhaps a little inspiration. If a net dummy like me can make it, you can too..just keep at it!
I wanted to start a website on my favorite hobby. I started an MSN group and ran it for a year, then I got sick with MSN's buggy nature. So, I decided I needed a website.
It was one of the most difficult decisions of my life to decide if I should spend the $7 on the site.
I didn't know what the difference between domain name and hosting was.
I thought GoDaddy was some perv p0rno site.

I remember, when someone recommended me their website, I visited the URL in the privacy of my locked room to make sure my family was safe from some perv site.
I had learned a little html while having the MSN group..My first website's anchor text was something like "AnaB's super cool website".
I didn't know how google worked, I thought the folks at google (Google Gods) visited every site and ranked them by hand
Anyhow, after I started liking computers back in 2003, I started out (couple years later) by learning SEO and I remember reading every single little piece of info on it, refreshing forums 500 times in a day thinking I'd missed anything...
And then, I remembered when I had my first website, I heard the term Google Dance. I remember it was February or something and I was so disappointed that I'd missed the Google dance and that my websites PR would not be updated for another month. Ha...
Then, I was disappointed that
after adding my website to so many website rings, my site was nowhere on the page even for its own name!
Then, I was sooo excited to buy the 100 ebooks they were selling at a dirt price of $3, I bought em all, read 'em all.
I was shocked that I hadn't made money after reading so much and learning so much from other forums and blogs. I had spent my whole life for the couple of months on gathering knowledge on this mysterious internet jackpot
It's so funny when I look back at all the things I didn't know back then and now I can teach in my sleep.. "Get keyword descriptive links from authority website, zzz add H1 tags, market to forums, add psychological triggers to your sales copy, zzzz copy write your articles, go to ezinearticles, ideamarketers....zzz...oh don't forget to blog and ping...zzz hey squidoo is good too.."
And, it's not even been
that long! I know I was afriad of making my first post at Digitalpoint forums, I was scared I would be laughed at. Today, I have 1000+ posts there, helping others there and I have accounts at so many different webmaster/marketing forums and have made so many good friends and JVs...
Life's certainly funny at times..
Anyhow, what about you?
How was your "first few months getting your feet wet in the marketing world?" Remember anything funny? Did you do something stupid like the ones I did?
Would just love to hear! It's good to laugh at your mistakes..
C'mon now...you have to share after I've embarrassed myself here
All Success,
Ana
